On August 7, 1964, under the general direction of the Bac Tam Ky District Party Committee, the people and armed forces stationed in Ky Thinh commune simultaneously rose up in coordination from many directions, completely liberating Ky Thinh commune in one day. Taking advantage of the victory, we continued to liberate a number of villages in Ky Nghia and Ky Ly communes; forcing the enemy to regroup and retreat to defend in the inner city and the suburbs. The formation of the Ky Thinh liberated zone made the revolutionary spirit among the masses very exciting, everyone enthusiastically volunteered to undertake the work assigned by the revolution.

A few days after liberation, the Bac Tam Ky District Party Committee office moved from the Ky Tra base to Ao Lay - Ky Thinh. Based on the general momentum of the whole commune and the whole district, Ky Thinh quickly built the liberated area into the Ao Lay - Ky Thinh resistance base area on two legs, three prongs, urgently built a revolutionary government, developed a guerrilla force, a long-haired army for political struggle, military agitation and revolutionary organizations. The whole Ky Thinh commune promoted the people's resistance movement, the whole people set up defenses against the enemy, improved explosives, dug combat tunnels..., ready to fight against the enemy's encroachment on the liberated area. From this point on, Ao Lay - Ky Thinh became the center of the district's revolutionary base in the western communes of Bac Tam Ky district.

The enemy used more vicious and brutal tricks than before, including using toxic chemicals to clear the area; at the same time, they concentrated a large force with many types of vehicles and modern weapons to continuously attack and sweep the Ao Lay - Ky Thinh area. The people of Ky Thinh did not falter before the rain of bombs, bullets and despicable tricks of the enemy, determined to hold on and firmly protect the Ao Lay - Ky Thinh base until the final victory.

Through the years of fierce and arduous war, the army and people at Ao Lay - Ky Thinh base coordinated to fight the enemy in over 600 large and small battles, eliminating 1,200 enemies from combat, burning 51 military vehicles, including 41 tanks, shooting down 7 aircraft of various types, completely destroying 16 platoons of militia, militia and special forces, 1 platoon of American soldiers, 2 pacification groups, 1 special forces company and killing 35 villains...

Recognizing the role of Ao Lay - Ky Thinh base in the resistance war against the US, on July 21, 2014, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province ranked this site as a provincial relic.
