Kidney abscess without re-examination

Báo Vĩnh LongBáo Vĩnh Long17/04/2023

Ms. Tran Thi Le Hoa (born in 1956, residing in Phu Long A hamlet, Phu Quoi commune, Long Ho district) has diabetes with kidney abscess complications, lives alone and needs help.

About 8 years ago, when the temporary accommodation in her husband's hometown (Chau Doc City, An Giang Province) was cleared, Tran Thi Le Hoa and her husband had no place to go, so they returned to their hometown in Phu Long A Hamlet (Phu Quoi Commune, Long Ho District) and were allowed to stay next to their house by their younger brother. Every day, Ms. Hoa's husband drove a motorbike taxi, while Ms. Hoa collected scrap, earning just enough to get by. When her husband passed away, not long after, Ms. Hoa fell ill and became bedridden, leading to a life of poverty, only able to rely on the help of her younger brother, niece, and benefactors.

Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Truc (Ms. Hoa's relative) said: "She has no children, so when she got sick, only her siblings and grandchildren were there to take care of her. But because everyone is poor, they don't have the means to help her with long-term treatment. Only when there are benefactors to support her will she have money to go to the hospital."

It is known that from the beginning of 2023 until now, Ms. Hoa has been hospitalized 3 times with a cost of more than 20 million VND. Relatives had to borrow this amount, but have not yet paid it back, so they cannot borrow more. Currently, Ms. Hoa's diabetes has complications causing kidney abscess, and she has had surgery to drain fluid to restore the structure and function of the kidney, so Ms. Hoa needs to be treated closely with a medication regimen and have regular check-ups so that the doctor can monitor and intervene promptly when there are abnormalities.

Accordingly, Ms. Hoa has to have a follow-up examination once a month. There is a charity car to support the transportation from her home to the hospital in Can Tho City, but the cost of medicine and other expenses outside of health insurance, the patient has to pay more than one million VND. Recently, thanks to the help of the local government and benefactors, Ms. Hoa has had money to go to the hospital for treatment, and her health has improved. But now the money that everyone has given has run out, so even though the date for the follow-up examination has passed a long time ago, Ms. Hoa still does not have money to go.
