According to Reuters, on April 18, Australia and New Zealand announced an agreement allowing the two militaries to coordinate more closely in the future.
Specifically, the ANZAC Project, named after a joint Australian-New Zealand force during World War I, will help improve interoperability, enhance cooperation in training, and improve the capabilities, manpower, and combat readiness of the two countries' armies. The plan also supports participation in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand Army Program - a military standardization pact between members of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance. "As close neighbors and allies, we are committed to supporting each other in the field of security as well as focusing on security and stability in the region," Reuters quoted New Zealand Army Chief John Boswell as saying.
