On June 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that last night (June 9), doctors from Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1 together brought the Singaporean mother in the ninth fetal heart catheterization intervention back to her homeland safely.

Accordingly, after an online consultation between the fetal heart catheterization team in Ho Chi Minh City and doctors from KK Woman's and Children's Hospital (Singapore), the doctors noted that the pregnant woman KWS (41 years old) had underlying lupus erythematosus, a chronic condition that can pose a risk to mother and baby.

The patient also had contractions and was closely monitored and treated by doctors.

On the afternoon of June 9, upon the request of the leaders of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health approved the support of bringing the pregnant woman KWS (41 years old) to Singapore to hand over to the neighboring hospital.

On the morning of June 10, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Deputy Director of Children's Hospital 1 and Dr. Trinh Nhat Thu Huong, Head of the Prenatal Care Department of Tu Du Hospital - the two people tasked with supporting the handover of Ms. S. to Singapore Maternity and Children's Hospital - quickly reported to the Director of the Department of Health about the handover results.

Due to the late departure of the flight (3 hours later than scheduled), it was not until 10pm that the flight landed at Singapore airport, and when the mother was handed over to KK Hospital, it was almost 11:30pm.

All the Vietnamese doctors were exhausted due to the delayed flight, but the team was warmly and friendly welcomed by the Singaporean doctors. The Singaporean hospital expressed admiration and joy for the recent successful fetal heart catheterization intervention.

Immediately afterwards, the mother was taken to the recovery room for further monitoring and treatment. The fetal cardiac catheterization intervention team from Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1 will continue to keep in touch with the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in Singapore regarding the progress of the mother and fetus in the following period.

Previously, on June 9, in Ho Chi Minh City, a ceremony was held to award certificates of merit from the Minister of Health to doctors from Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital for their outstanding achievements in performing trans-fetal cardiac catheterization interventions.

Seven individuals in the above team were honored to receive certificates of merit from Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan.

Professor Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, shared that medicine is not only science , but also the art of compassion and the ability to overcome limits.

The recent fetal cardiac intervention is a typical example, where doctors did not accept the "predetermined medical verdict", but rewrote the fate of a fetus, affirming the spirit "as long as there is a ray of hope, we will fight".

Previously, experts from Tu Du Hospital in collaboration with experts from Children's Hospital 1 intervened in a fetus with a complex congenital heart defect of a foreign patient.

This is the case of a Singaporean woman who was 22 weeks pregnant. A maternity hospital in Singapore discovered that the fetus had a severe congenital heart disease, with a risk of stillbirth.

The Singaporean hospital proactively referred the patient to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment using fetal heart intervention techniques, because they were not yet able to perform it.

The treatment team from two hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City performed the first intervention on May 22 but was unsuccessful. On May 28, after careful preparation and close coordination between specialists, the second intervention was successfully completed.
