Proactive and strict right from the preparation stage
In mid-May, we arrived at the Battalion 5 training ground (Reserve Training Area, Regiment 165) when the weather was at its hottest. From afar, we heard the firm, decisive commands during the tactical training session. The urgent, serious training atmosphere was clearly visible on the faces of the soldiers. Although their backs were soaked with sweat, the soldiers were still enthusiastically practicing, showing their spirit of overcoming the sun and rain, ready to complete all assigned tasks well.

Talking to us, Major Do Van Tu, the training company commander, said: “This year's training topics focus on organizing combat preparations at the squad level, exploiting and using weapons, technical equipment and organizing support. In particular, we build realistic training scenarios, requiring officers and soldiers to pay attention to the element of secrecy, grasp the terrain and the enemy's operating rules to organize marches, capture and retreat safely and effectively."
In 2025, Regiment 165 will receive and train more than 300 reserve soldiers, including reserve officers and military professionals from the following localities: Binh Long Town, Bu Dang District and Phu Rieng District (Binh Phuoc Province). From the beginning of the year, the Party Committee and the Regiment Command issued a specialized resolution on the task of training reserve mobilisation, identifying this as a central task. On that basis, the Regiment will develop a training plan that is close to the requirements of the task; select qualified and experienced training officers; and at the same time, carefully review the reserve mobilization source to grasp the target and adjust the content and methods accordingly.

Lieutenant Colonel Luu Van Thuy, Political Commissar of Regiment 165, emphasized: “We consider reserve mobilization training not only a regular task but also an important political responsibility in building a strong local armed force. Therefore, all preparation stages are organized methodically, synchronously and closely following reality.”
Practical, effective, closely following combat requirements
Adhering to the motto of "basic, practical, solid", Regiment 165 focuses on synchronous and in-depth training in each field such as: Operations, military forces, politics, information, reconnaissance, logistics, engineering... to equip reserve soldiers with the necessary knowledge and skills to coordinate closely in actual combat.
A notable new point this year is the training content for reserve officers in the Political and Logistics-Technical Department. Practical topics such as: Party work, political work in combat preparation and practice; organizing logistics and technical support in continuous mobility conditions, help learners grasp their responsibilities and tasks and improve their skills in handling real-life situations.
Along with military training, the Regiment pays special attention to political and ideologicaleducation and training in formality and discipline. Units strictly maintain time, etiquette and conduct, and promote the exemplary role of core cadres in managing and guiding reserve soldiers in daily training. Political education content is flexibly deployed, combining theoretical communication with practical discussion, contributing to building a strong political stance, spirit and high responsibility in performing tasks.

Lieutenant Trinh Xuan Loi, reserve officer, Deputy Commander of the Military Command of Long Ha Commune, Phu Rieng District (Binh Phuoc Province), shared: “This is the second time I have participated in training at Regiment 165. Compared to before, this time the training content has been clearly renewed. The tight organization, close to the actual tasks at the base, helped me accumulate a lot of experience in command and local military work.”
According to the assessment results of the first week of training, 100% of the training participants met the requirements, of which more than 85% achieved good or excellent results. The reserve officers and soldiers improved their practical skills, coordination ability and sense of discipline.
Colonel Vu Van Doan, Commander of Division 7 (Military Region 7), commented: “Regiment 165 is a typical unit in organizing reserve mobilization training. The innovation of methods and close adherence to reality have helped soldiers promote their capacity, sense of responsibility and readiness to take on tasks when situations arise.”
The results achieved in the reserve training of Regiment 165 are proof of the spirit of initiative, creativity and high responsibility in performing tasks, thereby contributing to consolidating the national defense, building a solid regional defense posture, meeting the requirements of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
