Discussing digital transformation solutions for the journalism industry.

In the context of intense competition from social media, which offers easy access, sharing, and rapid and diverse information, Vietnamese journalism needs to quickly embrace digital transformation. However, in reality, the digital transformation and multi-platform content production efforts of media organizations in Vietnam are currently facing many difficulties and challenges.

Currently, several media outlets have implemented digital transformation in areas such as: transforming content production, focusing on user interests to create content relevant to different reader and viewer segments; diversifying content creation methods; utilizing multiple platforms to reach users in a "wherever the user is, the information is there" manner; and forming links between media outlets and social networks and digital platforms.

State management agencies offer digital transformation solutions to serve the press industry (Figure 1).

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Hai, Head of the Press and Publishing Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Propaganda Department, digital transformation in journalism is an inevitable trend in journalistic activities in the current period. Despite many efforts, the city's media agencies still face numerous difficulties in the digital transformation process, such as technical infrastructure, capital, human resources, and issues related to data exploitation and analysis.

Over the past period, the press in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the press nationwide in general have gradually undergone digital transformation, creating innovation and adapting to the new context. Some media outlets have proactively built multimedia newsrooms and increasingly modern working environments, gradually implementing digital transformation according to the conditions of each newspaper and achieving important initial results.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Press Center, the digital transformation and multi-platform content production efforts of media organizations in Vietnam are currently facing many difficulties. These include a lack of technological autonomy, insufficient control over servers, CMS, security, and cloud services, forcing them to rely on partner technologies; significant influence from social media information, risking being misled by fake news and unverified information; and frequent copyright infringement of media content, for which there is still no effective solution.

In addition, many online news aggregators and groups on Facebook and YouTube copy or rework content for their own purposes, distorting the information and deliberately manipulating public opinion in a negative direction, causing significant harm to the community.

At the workshop, delegates suggested that media agencies need to build a shared database, with data stored on the city's server system to enhance security. Emphasis should be placed on training and professional development, providing reporters and journalists with the basic and essential skills needed for their work and the digital transformation of journalism.
