Shocking evidence: Malaysian naturalized player has no Malaysian roots

TPO - Malaysian football is facing a shock after Argentine media published documents completely refuting the claim of Malaysian origin by Facundo Garces, one of seven players sanctioned by FIFA for naturalization fraud.

Capital de Noticias (Argentina) channel has just provided documents completely denying the claim of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) that midfielder Facundo Garces has a grandfather with Malaysian nationality - the basis for this player to be naturalized and play for the national team.

Specifically, Capital de Noticias published a copy of the original birth certificate of Mr. Carlos Rogelio Fernandez (grandfather of player Facundo Garces) - a document collected by FIFA investigators during the investigation process.

Documents show that Mr. Fernandez was born on May 29, 1930 in Santa Fe (Argentina), instead of in Penang (Malaysia) as FAM declared.

Mr. Fernandez's mother, Mrs. Sebastiana Justa Fernandez, an Argentinian national, registered her son's birth in Villa Maria Selva ward, Santa Fe province. The document was certified by the Civil Registry Office of Santa Fe province.

In addition, the witness who signed the birth certificate, Mr. Cipriano Garces, Mrs. Sebastiana's husband, was confirmed to be a businessman of Spanish origin, not Malaysian.

"The documents collected by FIFA show that Facundo Garces has Argentine origins, which is completely contrary to the information provided by FAM," Capital de Noticias emphasized.

According to a detailed report released on October 6, FIFA has convicted FAM of falsifying naturalization documents for seven players including Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, Hector Hevel, Facundo Garces and Gabriel Palmero.

Garces and Machuca, both of Argentine origin, were found to have used altered birth certificates. FIFA asserted that the documents submitted by FAM showed signs of interference, misrepresenting the birthplace and origin of Garces’ grandfather to legitimize his naturalization status.

Capital de Noticias affirmed: “This is solid evidence proving the fraudulent behavior. The documents provided by the Malaysian side were falsified.” Although the Malaysian Federation still affirmed that it was “appealing FIFA’s decision”, with a series of undeniable evidence, FAM’s chance of turning the situation around is almost zero.
