The Government Office has just issued a document conveying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's opinion on the exploitation plan of Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Long Thanh International Airport.
Previously, the press reported that there had not been a final plan to move all international flights from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh.
In particular, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung affirmed that Long Thanh airport is planned to be a modern international airport, aiming to become a transit hub of Southeast Asia and Asia - Pacific . The Government pays special attention, regularly directs and requests to shorten the progress, strives to complete the project by the end of 2025 and put it into operation in mid-2026.

According to Mr. Dung, to effectively exploit Long Thanh airport, there needs to be a clear and synchronous transition scenario regarding infrastructure, services, and commerce; at the same time, it is necessary to ensure coordination in parallel operations with Tan Son Nhat airport, avoiding disruption of aviation operations.
However, up to now, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has not yet finalized the final plan but continues to listen to diverse opinions from experts to passengers.
Architect Ngo Viet Nam Son, specializing in urban planning, believes that Long Thanh airport needs to be exploited according to a 3-step roadmap.
In the first phase, when regional connectivity infrastructure and metro lines are not yet complete, the airport should only share part of the pressure with Tan Son Nhat, while focusing on developing cargo transport.
Phase two, after completing the airport urban and transport system, can add more international flights.
In the final step, Long Thanh will become the leading airport in Southeast Asia, integrated with an airport urban area, free trade zone and expressway and metro network - similar to the Singapore or Amsterdam model.
Mr. Son expressed the opinion that we should not give too much responsibility to Long Thanh from the beginning. We need to do it and adjust it at the same time to make it convenient for passengers and economically effective.
Regarding the opinions surrounding this content, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the Minister of Construction to inspect, handle and report the results to the Prime Minister before September 27.
