Amorim admits that MU's squad is quite thin. |
"We have to consider everything, including Sesko's situation and the loss of players due to AFCON. Maybe when the market opens, we will be forced to act to improve the squad," Amorim shared after the draw with Tottenham on the evening of November 8. The Portuguese coach admitted that the current squad is "worryingly thin" and the loss of Sesko has almost upset the personnel plan.
"When the transfer window opens, if there is a chance to improve the squad, we will do it," Amorim emphasized. "For now, we just know how to take advantage of every small opportunity."
The 2-2 draw in London against Spurs showed a United side that was trying hard but also exposed their personnel limitations. The joy of getting a point was overshadowed by Sesko's injury. The 22-year-old striker came off the bench, almost scored the decisive goal but after a tackle from Micky van de Ven, he lay on the ground clutching his knee in pain.
In addition, MU will soon lose Mbeumo, Diallo and Mazraoui in December when they join the AFCON squad. Thus, in the most stressful period of the season, the "Red Devils" are at risk of having only two real attacking players left.
Amorim admitted that the board anticipated this, but did not expect it to happen so soon: "You can prepare from the summer, but now there is only one game a week, and January is when everything happens in a rush."
In that context, according to Goal, MU certainly needs to add new players. A striker or a versatile winger will be the top priority.
