On September 6 and 7, 2024, Typhoon Yagi caused serious damage with strong gusts of wind and a long duration of the storm, causing great damage to property and infrastructure, uprooting many trees, collapsing electric poles and billboards. The provinces/cities of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong , and Bac Ninh were the most severely affected areas. Construction works, factories, warehouses, machinery and equipment, and wharves were broken by the wind, cars and goods were submerged and flooded, business operations were interrupted, causing serious damage to people and businesses in terms of property, vehicles, production and business establishments, and houses.

According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, by the afternoon of September 8, 2024, Typhoon Yagi had left 24 people dead and missing, nearly 7,400 houses damaged, many high-voltage power lines had problems, and a series of power poles, billboards, and trees were broken in the northern provinces, posing many risks to community activities. In particular, 25 boats sank in Quang Ninh. Agriculture also suffered great damage with nearly 98,000 hectares of rice, 11,700 hectares of crops flooded, and 1,100 aquaculture cages damaged and swept away.
