The launching ceremony was attended by Mr. Phung Ngoc Hap - Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee and representatives of agencies and departments in the city. More than 1,500 students, teachers, youth union members, officials, civil servants and people from wards and communes in Bao Loc City attended.
Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children and young people in the world . In Vietnam, it is estimated that more than 2,000 children under 16 years old die each year from drowning. One of the causes of death from drowning is that adults and children do not know how to swim and lack knowledge and skills to prevent drowning. Especially in recent times, children who know how to swim well still drown and the situation of collective drowning is because children do not know how to prevent and do not know how to safely rescue drowning.

Since the beginning of 2022, Lam Dong province has had more than 10 tragic drowning incidents in children, which pose a potential risk when the rainy season comes. In Bao Loc city, in 2022, there was a drowning incident that killed 2 students. Therefore, developing a swimming training movement and equipping children and the community with knowledge and skills to prevent drowning is an urgent solution to reduce the situation of drowning.
At the launching ceremony, Comrade Phung Ngoc Hap - Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee requested agencies, departments, branches, organizations and localities in the area to effectively implement the work of preventing accidents and injuries to children in the area; strengthen the prevention of drowning of children.
Focus on promoting the implementation of the Movement for the whole people to exercise following the example of the great Uncle Ho; propagate and mobilize children to actively practice sports, play and entertain to improve their health, physical strength, stature, cultivate moral qualities, personality, life skills, comprehensive development and prevent and combat injuries and drowning of children. Promote the role and responsibility of all levels, sectors, families, schools and the whole society in developing the movement of teaching and learning to swim and the work of preventing and combating drowning, contributing to gradually reducing drowning accidents...
Immediately after the launching ceremony, the 2023 Bao Loc City Student Swimming Tournament took place. The swimming tournament attracted nearly 500 athletes from primary and secondary schools in the city to compete in two events: freestyle swimming and 25m breaststroke for primary school students and 50m for secondary school students. After the tournament ended, the Organizing Committee will award prizes to athletes with outstanding achievements.
