National Treasures Convergence for the First Time – Honoring Vietnamese Heritage Masterpieces in Ho Chi Minh City

On the morning of June 29, 2025, at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City solemnly held the Ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's Decision to recognize Dong Son pottery as a National Treasure and opened the thematic exhibition "National Treasures - Heritage masterpieces in Ho Chi Minh City".

The ceremony was honored to welcome Comrade Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan - Former Member of the Politburo , Former Chairwoman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, along with representatives of the Department of Cultural Heritage - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, departments, scientists, collectors and a large number of heritage lovers...
This thematic exhibition has a special significance as for the first time, 17 National Treasures currently kept in public and private museums in Ho Chi Minh City are introduced in a common exhibition space, creating a comprehensive picture of Vietnamese history and culture from prehistoric to contemporary times. Among them, many artifacts have special value in terms of art, manufacturing techniques and symbolic meaning in the process of national cultural development.

One of the important highlights of the event is the Dong Son ceramic pot dating back about 2,500 - 2,000 years, belonging to the private collection of Mr. Pham Gia Chi Bao, which has just been recognized by the Prime Minister as a National Treasure in 2024, officially introduced to the public on this occasion. In addition, the exhibition also introduces many other typical artifacts such as: Dong Duong Buddha statue, Devi goddess statue, Vishnu statue, Avalokitesvara, Durga, Surya... representing Champa culture and Oc Eo culture; along with seals, money printing molds from the resistance war period and modern paintings by famous painters Nguyen Gia Tri and Nguyen Sang. According to the representative of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, the exhibition program not only aims to honor the special value of National Treasures, but also contributes to raising public awareness in protecting and promoting cultural heritage, while affirming the role of Ho Chi Minh City as a major cultural center of the country.
The thematic exhibition “National Treasures – Heritage Masterpieces in Ho Chi Minh City” will be open to the public from June 29 to August 10, 2025 at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History (No. 2 Nguyen Binh Khiem, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1).

   Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan - Former Chairwoman of the National Assembly and Mr. Pham Dinh Phong - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage presented the decision to recognize the National Treasure - Cho (Dong Son Culture) to Mr. Pham Gia Chi Bao. Ton Duc Thang Museum received the decision on ranking as a Grade I museum from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
