Promoting advantages to bring Da Nang to regional level

DNO - On the morning of October 25, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Committee Pham Duc An chaired a working session with AVSE Global - a global organization of Vietnamese scientists and experts, led by Mr. Nguyen Duc Khuong - Chairman of AVSE Global, to discuss development orientations and strategic cooperation programs to support Da Nang in the process of planning and building a sustainable urban area.

Also attending were Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Quang Buu and leaders of relevant departments and branches.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the City People's Committee Pham Duc An emphasized that Da Nang is oriented by the Central Government to develop into an innovation center of the Central region and the whole country. The city aims to exploit the potential of the Western region to develop tourism associated with medicinal plant production areas; at the same time, calling on large enterprises to invest in the seaport sector.

Development of modern transport and logistics infrastructure

Chairman of the City People’s Committee Pham Duc An said that Da Nang currently owns two international airports. Of these, Da Nang International Airport is operating effectively, with the number of passengers increasing rapidly, aiming for the target of 20 million passengers per year.

In the coming time, the city will coordinate to develop Chu Lai airport to 4F standards, aiming to exploit both passengers and goods, forming a large-scale logistics center. Da Nang will deploy an urban railway system to promote socio- economic growth, trade, services, tourism and logistics, in line with the orientation of green, clean and sustainable development.

Regarding the orientation of an international financial center, the Chairman of the City People's Committee said that in mid-November, the Government plans to issue about 7 important decrees, opening up opportunities for Da Nang to accelerate the process of forming a financial center, attracting domestic and foreign talents.

To attract high-quality human resources and international experts, the Chairman of the City People's Committee said that the city needs to develop comprehensive social infrastructure, especially international-standard schools and hospitals, along with high-class tourism and health care services, towards an attractive living and working environment.

At the meeting, city leaders and relevant departments and branches requested AVSE Global to research, propose and orient a number of contents such as: building resources to deploy the Free Trade Zone and Vietnam Financial Center in Da Nang; focusing on the marine economy.

Especially priority areas for the city to develop, to strive to bring Da Nang to achieve double-digit growth in a stable and long-term manner.

At the same time, with its reputation and large international network, AVSE Global is expected to continue to act as a bridge, attracting businesses, especially large businesses in the logistics sector, to learn about and invest in Da Nang.

Towards a regional economic and financial center

To become the region's top livable city in the next 10-20 years, city leaders need to focus on improving skills for the young generation, building a culture of integration and international working style, while expanding creative, recreational and entertainment spaces to serve residents and tourists.

AVSE Global proposes to develop spatial structure, planning orientation and urban spatial structure of Da Nang including three main areas.

The urban core is the existing center developed according to a compact urban model, focusing on service, financial, startup and high-tech activities.

The new urban belt includes Lien Chieu, Hoa Xuan, and southern Da Nang, expanding the coastal connection of Quang Nam, forming a chain of linked urban areas of Hoi An - Tam Ky, supporting the functions of the central core.

Towards green, smart cities

AVSE Global proposes that Da Nang aims to become an economic hub in Southeast Asia, focusing on financial services, technology, logistics and international tourism.

Sea, island and luxury resort tourism will be developed in parallel with eco-tourism, cultural tourism and high-quality agriculture. The city also plans a network of universities, research institutes, start-up and innovation centers concentrated in the core urban area.

Regarding environment and sustainable development, AVSE Global recommends that Da Nang orient towards green, ecological urban development, adapting to climate change, combining sea - river - mountain; focusing on natural disaster risk management, developing renewable energy, circular economy, reducing carbon emissions, towards open and sustainable urban areas.

The city needs to re-scale the urban area to become a strategic buffer zone, developing multi-functionality while still ensuring environmental quality. At the same time, focus on building natural amenities and cultural works to serve the community.
