Unsafe when traveling through the people's bridge downstream of Ke Go Lake

The bridges in the downstream area of Ke Go Lake (Ha Tinh) are seriously degraded, becoming a nightmare and a threat to hundreds of households every day. After many years of fighting against time and fierce flood discharges, these bridges are becoming a concern for the people here when traveling across them every day.

Ben Da Bridge in My Yen village, connects the two banks of Ngan Mo river to connect the southern villages of Cam Due commune with the central area.

Lying across the Ngan Mo River in Cam Due Commune, Ha Tinh Province, Ben Da Bridge plays a vital role, connecting the southern villages of Cam Due Commune with the administrative center, creating favorable conditions for people to travel and work, especially helping to shorten the distance to school for hundreds of students in My Yen, My Ha, My Phu and My Dong villages.

According to local people, the old concrete bridge was built about 20 years ago with contributions from people in My Yen village and neighboring villages. However, this bridge was washed away after many overflows of Ke Go lake. About 3 years ago, a hydroelectric enterprise supported the people to build a temporary iron and steel bridge. However, the weak structure of the iron bridge was not strong enough to withstand the harsh weather and strong currents during the flood season.

The railings on both sides of the bridge were completely broken after the spillway was released at the end of August, leaving pedestrians with almost no support in the deep water. The bridge is only about 1 meter wide and 25 meters long, and is made of steel plates. These steel plates are now loose and exposed in many places.

The current state of degradation of Ben Da bridge.

Mr. Phan Van Nien, a resident of My Yen village, worriedly shared that now he is very scared to cross the bridge. If it rains or is slippery, he can fall into the river at any time. Recently, a person fell down, luckily during the day, people discovered him in time.

According to Mr. Dang Viet Thai, Secretary of the My Yen village Party Cell, Cam Due commune, Ben Da bridge serves more than 500 households in the southern area of the old Cam My commune. Mr. Thai said that he has repeatedly made recommendations in meetings with voters and People's Council delegates about building a new, more solid bridge.

Faced with the serious deterioration, the People's Committee of Cam Due commune conducted a survey and proposed a plan to reinforce and repair the bridge railing as a temporary solution. However, this is only a temporary solution. In the long term, a new, sturdy bridge is a prerequisite to ensure safety for the people and contribute to promoting the local socio -economic development.

The degraded Ben Da Bridge is dangerous for people traveling across the bridge, especially during the rainy season.

Not only Ben Da bridge, many other residential bridges in the downstream area of Ke Go lake are also in a state of disrepair, lacking railings or severely damaged railings, directly threatening the lives of people such as: the residential bridge over the main Ke Go canal culvert located in Tan Due village (Cam Due commune), currently has broken railings; the bridge over the canal connecting My Yen and My Dong villages of Cam Due commune lacks a railing system on both sides...

To ensure safety during the flood season, people downstream of Ke Go Lake hope that all levels and sectors will pay attention and invest in building a new, solid and sustainable bridge system that can withstand flood discharges from Ke Go Lake; to ensure the safety of people's lives and property, and create momentum for sustainable socio-economic development for the locality.
