On the morning of November 4, at Km84+700 on Provincial Road 547 ( Ha Tinh coastal road), thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil slid down, burying the entire road surface. While the construction unit was clearing, the area continued to collapse, injuring three people and damaging two vehicles. Many new cracks appeared on the slope, posing a potential risk of landslides recurring.
Mr. Phan Xuan Dan, a resident of Ky Xuan commune, said: “At around 4 pm on November 4, rocks and soil from the mountain suddenly fell down again, injuring three people who had to be taken to the emergency room. The road construction vehicles are still at the scene because they cannot move yet.”

According to the authorities, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, the soil and rocks on the slope of the DT 547 route are saturated with water. In addition, the geology in the mountainous area is sandy soil mixed with orphaned rocks, so when it rains for a long time, it leads to landslides. Currently, on the slope here, many long-lasting cracks continue to appear. Therefore, the handling of landslides on this route is temporarily stopped, waiting for the weather to stabilize before continuing.
On Highway 12C towards Vung Ang Port, nearly 5,000 cubic meters of rock, soil and trees spilled onto the road, causing traffic congestion. Cracks and erosion continued to appear in many locations along the route due to the weak soil absorbing water. Currently, the authorities have leveled and temporarily repaired the road so that vehicles can circulate. However, the risk of landslides here is still very high.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Quy, representative of a transport company operating on this route, said: “The road congestion has caused the transportation of goods to stagnate. We hope that the authorities will soon have a thorough solution to ensure the safety of people and vehicles traveling through this location.”

According to statistics from the Department of Construction, due to the impact of heavy rain from October 27 to November 4, landslides occurred on the coastal road of Ha Tinh at 4 locations, causing thousands of cubic meters of soil and rocks from the mountain to flow down across the road, causing traffic congestion. Faced with the serious landslides, the functional sector in Ha Tinh was forced to ban people and vehicles from traveling on the coastal road through Ky Xuan commune and Cam Trung commune. In addition, some other locations on National Highway 12C also suffered serious landslides.
Mr. Phan Van Trung, Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Department of Construction, said: “Due to prolonged rain, a large amount of water seeping into the ground is at high risk of landslides. To ensure safety, we have temporarily stopped construction at dangerous locations and organized traffic diversions and road closures. When the weather is favorable and the terrain is stable, the force will promptly take action to fix the problem.”
Faced with the potential safety risks of landslides, authorities also recommend that people and drivers comply with warning signs and traffic instructions, and not enter the blocked area without permission.
