According to the Foreign Market Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), in the context of President Donald Trump's administration imposing a 20% reciprocal tax on Vietnamese goods, many American businesses still choose Ho Chi Minh City as a destination to purchase goods at the Vietnam International Sourcing 2025 (VIS 2025) event series taking place from September 4-6.
"This signal shows that the need to connect the supply chain with Vietnam has not cooled down, but is gradually shifting to a model of directly searching for suppliers who are Vietnamese manufacturers to shorten the logistics chain, reduce costs and increase initiative," said a representative of the Foreign Market Department.
From the West Coast, Oregon confirmed to lead a large business delegation accompanied by Congressman Daniel Nguyen, bringing together "big guys" operating in the fields of agriculture , food, technology, outdoor fashion and logistics services. The schedule at VIS 2025 focuses on B2B work, unifying technical requirements, quality standards, supply models and on-site surveys at factories and industrial parks. Along with a busy schedule in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, the Oregon delegation aims to build specific memorandums of understanding and cooperation immediately after the event.
From the South, VIS 2025 is expected to welcome the largest import, distribution and logistics delegation ever from Texas, including L&V Food Supply, C&T Produce Wholesale, Ca Mau Supermarket, Port Houston, MIB – Morris International Beverage… This group of businesses aims to find “Made in Vietnam” sources spanning many fields: mechatronics, machine manufacturing, textiles, chemicals – plastics, leather and footwear, food – beverages, handicrafts, furniture. The presence of Port Houston shows the expectation of optimizing the transportation direction and the gateway to the distribution system in the Southern United States.
The focus of the US delegation at VIS 2025 is to work directly with Vietnamese suppliers on the floor: exchanging catalogs, technical standards, traceability, ESG standards, etc., delivery schedules and sustainable purchasing plans. With advantages in price, quality and flexibility, along with increasingly improved competitiveness and compliance, Vietnamese businesses have the opportunity to "get on the shelves" faster through the distribution chains and logistics networks that US businesses participating in VIS 2025 are operating.
With the technological, financial and management potential of US states combined with Vietnam's market advantages and high-quality human resources, VIS 2025 is expected to become a launching pad for strategic trade and investment projects.
From the meetings at the exhibition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that many deals and contracts will be signed, opening a new chapter for the Vietnam - Oregon - Texas relationship in particular, and Vietnam - US in general in a deeper and more comprehensive way.
By the end of 2024, Vietnam will become the 8th largest trading partner and the 4th largest export market of the US in the ASEAN region. In contrast, the US is the second largest trading partner and the largest export market of Vietnam.
According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 7 months of 2025, the US was Vietnam's largest export market with a turnover of 85.1 billion USD. In the same period, the trade surplus with the US reached 74.6 billion USD, an increase of 28.6% compared to the first 7 months of 2024.
