Kia has recently revealed a series of renderings for special editions of its all-new Tasman pickup, most notably the military variants with rugged and rugged designs.

These images of the military-spec Kia Tasman are notable not only for the vehicle's versatility, but also because they were created using artificial intelligence (AI) – and the results have even led many to believe that the AI has unintentionally improved the original design.

On the official website of Kia Special Vehicles - the department specializing in developing military vehicles, light commercial vehicles and specialized vehicles, the Korean car company has published images of two military Tasman models: Military Command Vehicle and Military Pickup Truck.

Both are set in jungle and desert settings, with a strong sense of realism. However, the curious point is not the additional equipment, but the appearance of the vehicle. The AI-generated renderings show a smoother, cleaner design and less “muscular” than the current commercial version.

Some of the more noticeable differences include: larger headlights, a simpler grille, a more traditional front bumper, and smooth wheel arches instead of the sharp-edged ones of the original. Added to this are military details like a larger bed, a bull bar, and an environment-appropriate camouflage paint job.

Scrolling down the page, Kia also introduces nine other versions of the Tasman, aimed at commercial purposes such as: police cars, ambulances, safari vehicles, troop carriers, armored vehicles... All are noted as "for illustration purposes only".

The Tasman is Kia's all-new mid-size pickup truck, officially entering production in early 2025. Despite its potential, initial sales in the Australian market are still quite modest. According to the plan, Kia will have periodic upgrades for this vehicle line during its expected life cycle of 8 to 12 years.

Experts say it’s possible that the AI tool Kia used didn’t accurately recognize the Tasman’s distinctive features and accidentally created a more proportionate, neutral version typically found in mainstream pickups. This is a common limitation of AI modeling, despite recent improvements.

What many people wonder is why Kia chose AI instead of a traditional design team, when the company is fully capable of creating real-life renderings with higher accuracy. Although this is just an illustration, many people still hope for a Tasman version with a more rugged, minimalist design and a more off-road style.

And in fact, Kia has already hinted at such a variant through the Tasman Weekender concept – equipped with body-color fenders, a new front bumper and a raised suspension system. This model is said to be a direct competitor to names like the Ford Ranger Raptor in the near future.
