(QNO) - Since the beginning of the season, mosaic disease has appeared and locally damaged many cassava areas in Que Son district. This dangerous disease is forecasted to spread widely in the coming time.

According to the agricultural sector, up to now, Quang Nam farmers have planted 2,184 hectares of cassava, mainly using two varieties PLT01 and KM94. Of which, Que Son 1,600 hectares, Nam Giang 195 hectares, Phu Ninh 98 hectares, Tien Phuoc 87 hectares, Duy Xuyen 70 hectares, Thang Binh 69 hectares, Tam Ky 50 hectares, Dien Ban 16 hectares.
According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Quang Nam , most of the cassava areas mentioned above are currently in the seedling stage, developing stems and leaves. However, recently, mosaic disease has appeared and locally damaged 100 hectares of cassava in Que Son district with an average disease rate of 10 - 20%.
It is known that at the same time last year, in Que Son, 1,233 hectares of cassava were infected with mosaic disease.
According to the professional agency, cassava mosaic is a dangerous disease caused by the Sri Lanka Cassava Mosaic virus. This disease can spread and infect very quickly through the vector whitefly and cassava cuttings. Currently, there is no effective treatment for cassava mosaic disease. The typical symptom of cassava mosaic disease is mottled yellow mosaic on the leaves. Mild damage is no deformation or slight deformation, severe damage causes cassava leaves to curl, bend, and wrinkle.
