More than 300 family representatives attended these conferences. This is one of the key activities of the project “Raising community awareness and community-based disaster risk management” being implemented by Hanoi city.
In the communes, many people came very early to receive documents. As one of the earliest attendees, Mr. Nguyen Van Tan in Mieng Thuong village (Hoa Vien commune) wanted to be instructed on skills to prevent, respond to, and overcome the consequences of natural disasters that often appear in the area...

At the conference, the reporters from the Hanoi Department of Irrigation and Disaster Prevention focused on disseminating knowledge to the people about climate change and types of natural disasters that often occur in the locality such as heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, etc. Through the presentations, the reporters clarified the risks that may be encountered, analyzed the common causes of damage and guided people on necessary response skills.
People are advised to proactively develop contingency plans, prepare essential supplies, and know how to contact authorities when a natural disaster occurs. The guidelines also cover forecasting, early warning, and safe evacuation, contributing to improving proactive response to natural disasters at the grassroots level.

An important highlight of the conference was the emphasis on the proactive role of the community in reducing natural disaster risks. People are not only affected but also the pioneers in the process of prevention, response and overcoming consequences.
“When each individual clearly understands the risks and is ready to respond, the whole community will have stronger resistance to natural disasters,” emphasized Tran Thanh Man, Deputy Head of the Department of Irrigation and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Deputy Chief of Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Hanoi City.

In addition to disseminating knowledge about gender equality in disaster prevention, the conference also introduced the city's two-level government organization model and regulations related to the collection and payment of the Disaster Prevention and Control Fund. These are contents that people are particularly interested in when performing their tasks at the grassroots level.
Sharing after the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, a resident of Tao Khe village (Tao Duong Van commune) excitedly said: “We learned a lot of useful knowledge, such as climate change, how the greenhouse effect affects the weather, natural disasters. Ways to prevent storms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, strong winds, floods... For example, when there is a thunderstorm, you should not leave the house or use the phone, if you are in the fields, do not take shelter under the shade of old trees, near transformer stations; when there is a flood, you must cut off the electricity early...".

According to the Hanoi Department of Irrigation and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, in the coming time, the agency will continue to expand propaganda and guidance activities in many other areas, aiming to build a safer society, better adapting to increasingly extreme and unpredictable weather and natural disasters...
