Chinese social media is buzzing about a failed wedding because the groom was “busy traveling ”. The bride, surnamed Cao (nearly 30 years old) from Hunan, accused the groom of being “too much” when he took his entire family on a trip on the wedding day, leaving her and the bride’s family alone.
According to the report, the couple had agreed on the wedding, and the dowry was set at 168,000 NDT (over 600 million VND). One day before the wedding, the bride’s mother suddenly called the groom, demanding an additional 60,000 NDT (over 215 million VND) as a “get-off fee”.
The groom did not object, and even happily agreed. However, on the wedding day, no one from the groom's family came to pick up the bride.
After making dozens of unanswered phone calls, the bride's family discovered that the groom had taken his parents on a trip early in the morning, without any notice or apology.
The groom said he used all the money from the wedding to take his family out.
Ms. Cao shared that her mother just wanted to see the attitude of the groom's family, to test her son-in-law, and in reality, she did not necessarily want the groom's family to pay more money. The groom's reaction made her whole family lose face. She felt betrayed.
The groom's family currently has no intention of continuing the wedding.
The story, after being shared on social media, has caused many mixed opinions. Many people condemned the groom's behavior, saying that he should have properly announced the wedding, leaving in silence was immature and disrespectful.
However, many opinions support the groom, considering this a tough action to end a relationship that showed signs of premeditation.
One account commented: “It’s called testing, but in reality, it’s bargaining. If today it costs 60,000 yuan to get in the car, who knows if tomorrow when we change the way we address each other, it might cost tens of thousands more yuan?”
Another person shared a similar story:
“When my cousin got married, her father demanded an additional 30,000 yuan (over 107 million VND) right on stage as a ‘change of address fee’. The groom gritted his teeth and paid, but every time they argued, he would bring it up to nag. A marriage like that will sooner or later fall apart.”
Ms. Cao’s story is a reminder that weddings should not be a place to test each other’s love with material things. A marriage that begins with suspicion and bargaining will have a hard time building lasting trust.
If you want to know if someone is sincere, observe the way they live and love every day. Because sincerity cannot be measured by money and should not be bargained for on the most important day of one's life.
