The Vietnam Festival in Japan was first held in 2008, a major cultural exchange event between Vietnam and Japan. This is a diverse exchange forum in many fields such as culture, economy , tourism, human resources... thereby contributing to deepening the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

Sharing about this activity, Meritorious Artist Tran Thanh Hien, Director of Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, artistic director of the program "Vietnam - Japan Friendship" said that Thang Long Puppetry Theatre is very proud to be represented to perform within the framework of the Vietnam Festival in Japan, contributing to enhancing artistic exchange, promoting traditional Vietnamese art in general, traditional puppetry art in particular to international friends.
“In recent times, Vietnamese puppetry has become an attractive tourism product, attracting a large number of international visitors to Vietnam. Through this art program, we hope to continue to spread the beauty of traditional art, especially Vietnamese puppetry, to Japanese audiences, thereby attracting more Japanese tourists to Vietnam and the capital Hanoi,” said Meritorious Artist Tran Thanh Hien.

The art program "Vietnam - Japan Friendship" for Japanese audiences consists of 2 parts.
Part I lasts about 30 minutes, bringing unique water puppet performances associated with the brand of Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, such as "Teacher's Tale", "Dragon Dance", "The Buffalo Boy Playing the Flute", "Planting, Plowing, and Slapping Water", "Frog Fishing", "Fishing", "Phoenix Dance", "Four Spirits Dance"...
Part II is a comprehensive folk music and dance program lasting about 50 minutes, with performances praising the homeland, Vietnam and the unique cultural features of the nation, such as the performance combining puppetry and the monochord "Vietnam Gam Hoa"; the T'rung and Krongput ensemble performance "Spring comes - The bird brings good news"; the puppet show "Red ban flower", "Spring festival"; the Chau Van singing and dancing performance "The girl of Thuong Ngan"...

The performances in the program are staged in a modern style but still honor the cultural values of Vietnam, demonstrating the subtle blend of traditional puppetry and Vietnamese folk music.
The program has the participation of beloved artists such as Meritorious Artist Thanh Hien, Meritorious Artist Duc Hung, Meritorious Artist Le Thu Huyen; artists Nguyen Dang Nhan, Nguyen Van Phuc, Duong Van Phuong, Pham Duc Duy, Tran Ngoc Linh...
