However, due to hot weather, cold dew at night and early morning, causing pests to develop, many squash areas in the growth stage of leaves and stems preparing to climb the trellis have wilted and died en masse in communes with many squash plants such as Dia Linh, Yen Duong, Chu Huong, Thuong Giao...

Ms. Vy Thi Huyen, a resident of Na Giao village, Yen Duong commune, shared: "This year, my family planted 800m2 of ^fragrant green squash, but when it climbed the trellis, the phenomenon of wilting and root suffocation appeared. At first, there were only a few plants, but then it spread to the whole field. Although many types of pesticides were used, it still could not be saved. I have now re-cultivated the land and planted corn to replace the area of green squash."

Households actively visit fields and take care of crops.

Not only Ms. Huyen's family but also many households growing squash in Yen Duong commune are struggling because of the disease. This is not a new disease, but people have not yet found a specific medicine, making growing squash more difficult. Ms. Vy Thi Be, residing in Na Giao village, said: "Last year, my family also lost more than 1,000 square meters of ^squash . Every time the plants flowered and climbed the trellis, they withered and died, otherwise the fruiting plants would die on their own, causing my family a lot of damage. This year, I no longer grow squash but decided to grow wild bitter melon, hoping for better results."

Sharing about this issue, Mr. Hoang Van Quy, Chairman of Yen Duong Commune People's Committee informed: In 2025, Yen Duong Commune will have 60 hectares of fragrant green squash growing area. This is the main crop of the locality, however, the appearance of pests and diseases makes people worried. Currently, the commune has issued documents urging people to regularly check and handle when pests and diseases appear. For areas with many dead plants, proactively convert the land to other crops in time for the season.

Use plastic to cover the bed to help reduce weeds.

According to research, in the past 3 years, squash plants have begun to show signs of disease. However, 2025 is considered a very difficult year due to harsh climate and drought affecting agricultural production. Not only squash plants but also crops such as rice, corn, and tobacco are affected. To protect squash productivity and minimize damage caused by pests, farmers need to increase inspection, timely detection and prevention of pests.

Experts recommend that for downy mildew, it is necessary to remove, collect and destroy old leaves and diseased leaves to limit the spread of the disease. Spray both sides of the leaves to prevent the disease with one of the following specific drugs: Ridomil Gold 68WP, Dacoconil gold, Insuran 50WG, Aliette 800WG. For bacterial wilt, the fields must be cleaned, weeded, hoeed and treated, and plant residues collected and destroyed before planting. Avoid waterlogging during the rainy season. Uproot and destroy diseased plants to prevent the spread of the disease, spray to prevent the disease with one of the following drugs: Starsuper 20WP, Kasumin 2 SL...

Seedling wilt disease (root collar rot, stem wilt) requires field sanitation, weeding, hoeing and soil treatment to make the soil loose, collecting and destroying plant residues before planting. Rotate with other crops, when detecting the disease, spray with one of the following drugs: Ridomil Gold 68WP, Tilt super 300 EC, Revus Opti 440SC./.
