On June 3, news from the office of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province said that the province has just announced the List of local inland waterway routes in the province with 3 inland waterway routes to manage and reasonably exploit the potential of waterway traffic, serving the development of coastal tourism and local socio -economic development.
Three inland waterway routes with a total length of about 15.5km are all located in Quy Nhon city, including: Nhon Ly-Ky Co route (5km long), starting point in Nhon Ly commune and ending point in Ky Co; Nhon Hai-Ky Co route (10km long), starting point in Nhon Hai commune and ending point in Ky Co; Nhon Hai-Hon Kho route (0.5km long), starting point in Nhon Hai commune and ending point in Hon Kho.
These routes are all ranked as level VI-IV in technical planning. Particularly for the Nhon Hai-Ky Co route, the Provincial People's Committee requires that the exploitation must ensure that it does not overlap with the coastal transport route from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan announced by the Ministry of Construction .
Mr. Duong Hiep Hung, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nhon Hai Commune (Quy Nhon City), said that immediately after receiving this decision, the commune will invite tourism businesses to work and sign a commitment to operate in accordance with regulations and strictly comply with the conditions of waterway traffic safety.
The announcement of the Waterway List will help businesses in the area have a legal basis to resume operations after local authorities have issued a ban on the operation of vehicles that do not meet the prescribed criteria.
Previously, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province issued urgent instructions on strengthening the management of inland waterway traffic activities serving tourism, especially in the summer of 2025.
The province strictly prohibits vehicles that do not meet technical requirements, do not have an operating license, or drivers who do not have a practice certificate from participating in transporting passengers and tourists at sea.
This directive was issued after a serious jet ski accident occurred at Hon Kho (Nhon Hai commune) in early May 2025, killing one person and injuring another.
After the accident, all passenger transport activities by canoe and jet ski that do not meet the conditions were suspended in Quy Nhon city.
