Binh Dinh rewards male student who won silver medal at Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad

Leaders of Binh Dinh province awarded Le Kien Thanh, a 12th grade IT student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Quy Nhon City), for his excellent silver medal win at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO).

On the afternoon of May 28, Binh Dinh province held a meeting to honor teachers and students who achieved excellent results in the 2025 Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO).

According to the results announced by the APIO 2025 organizing committee on May 27, Le Kien Thanh, a 12th grade IT student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, scored 195.5/300 points, ranked 28th in the region, and won a silver medal.

At the commendation ceremony, Mr. Ho Quoc Dung - Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee - highly appreciated the capacity and spirit of teachers and students of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, bringing pride to Binh Dinh when Thanh was one of the candidates with the highest score in the large-scale exam in the region.

“In the context of Resolution 57 of the Central Committee on breakthroughs in science , technology, innovation and national digital transformation, Binh Dinh province is aiming to be the leading digital transformation locality in the region. Thanh's high prize at the Informatics Olympiad not only affirms his personal capacity, but also inspires and spreads to students who love the field of informatics - a field that the whole country is interested in,” said Mr. Dung.

At the award ceremony, sponsors donated 120 million VND to Thanh to prepare for the International Olympiad in Informatics in Bolivia, scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 3.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province also awarded a certificate of merit to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu, the head teacher and IT lecturer of Thanh, for her excellent achievements in teaching, guiding and accompanying students to win silver medals at the Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad.

The APIO 2025 competition, hosted by Uzbekistan, took place online from May 17 to 18. The Vietnamese team of 15 members competed at the University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Previously, from the results of the 2025 national excellent student exam organized by the ministry, 31 high school students who won the highest prizes and 5 students with special privileges were selected to participate in the national team selection exam for the APIO and International Olympiad in Informatics in Bolivia.

Round 2 of the selection exam was held on March 26-27 at the University of Technology, resulting in 15 students being selected to the Vietnamese team to participate in APIO 2025. Le Kien Thanh, with a total score of 248.45/600, excelled over 35 of the best candidates in the country.

Combining the scores from the two selection rounds and the APIO 2025 exam, Le Kien Thanh achieved 443.95 points, officially being in the group of 4 Vietnamese students participating in the IOI 2025 exam, scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 3 in Bolivia.
