The film recreating the life of the father of the atomic bomb "Oppenheimer" released by Universal Pictures continued to attract audiences in North America last weekend despite being shown for four consecutive weeks.
According to figures released by Exhibitor Relations, the film by talented director Christopher Nolan earned an additional 18.8 million USD from 3,761 theaters in the North American market, bringing its total revenue after 4 weeks of showing here to 264.3 million USD.
Globally, "Oppenheimer" has grossed over $649 million, making it one of the highest-grossing films of Nolan's career.
"Oppenheimer" also became the highest-grossing World War II film in box office history, surpassing Steven Spielberg's classic war film "Saving Private Ryan," and even surpassing Nolan's own "Dunkirk" (2017) with a worldwide gross of $527 million.
The film made a strong impression on the audience with close-up and realistic images through the "magic" hands of Director Nolan.
He used computer graphics to depict a nuclear explosion in "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), but this time he did not use computer-generated imagery (CGI).
The director, known for his "willingness to spend" and limited use of cinematic techniques, believes that CGI cannot fully reflect the threat of atomic bomb testing and effects.
He enlisted the help of Visual Effects Supervisor Andrew Jackson, who won the 2021 Oscar for Best Visual Effects, when completing the Oppenheimer script.
Belonging to the biographical film genre lasting about 3 hours, the audience was both satisfied and emotional when witnessing the troubled life of the "father of the atomic bomb" that Director Nolan portrayed through "Oppenheimer."
In Vietnam, "Oppenheimer" was released in theaters on August 11. According to data from Box Office Vietnam (boxofficevietnam.com), "Oppenheimer" earned more than 11.2 billion VND with more than 94,400 tickets sold last weekend.
