Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a member of a prominent Democratic political family. He and President-elect Trump campaigned together, pledging to address issues related to processed foods and other healthcare priorities.
When announcing Kennedy's nomination on November 14, Trump said: "For a long time, Americans have been crushed by the food industry and pharmaceutical companies."
On social media, many commented that Kennedy seemed the least enthusiastic of the four, as he cautiously held the burger box, along with fries and a bottle of Coca-Cola, in front of him.
Kennedy, 70, is known for his skeptical views on vaccines and has long argued that the U.S. needs to control the obesity epidemic by reducing the amount of sugar, fat, and processed foods high in additives in the national diet.
In a podcast episode aired last week, Kennedy strongly criticized President-elect Trump's diet, saying that "the things he eats are really bad."
"Campaign food is always terrible, and the food that was put on (Trump's) plane was just poison," Kennedy said on the Joe Polish podcast. "But you have no choice. You're only served KFC or McDonald's."
Mr. Trump has never hidden his passion for fast food. He even worked briefly at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania in October during his presidential campaign.
Kennedy needed to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate to assume the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services. Some senior members of the Republican Party expressed concerns about his suitability for the role.
