Ministry of Health prepares for third measles vaccination campaign

According to the report of the Department of Disease Prevention (Ministry of Health), last week the country recorded more than 4,100 suspected cases of measles, 2 deaths including a patient being treated for cancer with many underlying diseases and a young child who was hospitalized late after 3 days of illness.

Since the beginning of the year, the country has had 76,312 suspected measles cases in 63 provinces and cities, including 10 deaths. The northern provinces have recorded the sharpest increase in cases, while other regions are showing a stable trend. The age of the disease has begun to change according to age group after the vaccination campaign.

Compared to the first 3 months of 2025, the group aged 1-10 (accounting for 61.4%) decreased by 6%, but increased by 6.4% in the group aged over 10. Up to now, 52/54 provinces and cities have achieved a vaccination rate of over 95%, the remaining 2 provinces have achieved from 90 to under 95%. The Ministry of Health is focusing on reviewing children aged 11-15 who have not been vaccinated or have not received 2 doses of measles-containing vaccine. At the same time, the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Pasteur Institute are directing and implementing the 3rd vaccination campaign in 2025, focusing on high-risk areas.
