Faced with the risk of a measles outbreak in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has identified vaccination as the most proactive, effective and urgent solution to prevent the disease.

From late 2024 to early 2025, three measles vaccination campaigns were deployed nationwide with positive results, the scope of vaccination subjects was expanded, contributing to improving the rate of community immunity and disease control.

The Ministry of Health received 500,000 doses of measles vaccine donated by FPT Long Chau.

The 2024 vaccination campaign will reach a rate of 97.1%, implemented for children aged 1 to 10 years and high-risk groups. In 2025, the Ministry of Health will continue to organize the first phase of the campaign, achieving a vaccination rate of 95.5%.

In particular, this time the vaccination target group is expanded to include children from 6 months to under 9 months old in high-risk areas or areas where disease/epidemic cases are occurring.

Given the complicated developments of the epidemic and following the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 23/CD-TTg dated March 15, 2025, the second phase of the campaign was urgently implemented, continuing to prioritize vaccination for children from 6 months to under 9 months old and children from 1 to 10 years old. This phase recorded high results, reaching 96.4%.

Through vaccination campaigns, the rate of measles in the community has shown clear signs of reduction in vaccinated groups. Specifically, in the group of children from 1 to 10 years old - which accounts for 61.4% of total cases, the disease rate has decreased by 6%.

The group under 1 year old, accounting for 2.7% of cases (including children under 6 months old who are not indicated for vaccination), also recorded a slight decrease of 0.4%. However, what is worrying is that the incidence rate increased in the group over 10 years old, increasing by 6.4% and accounting for 35.9% of the total number of cases, of which the group from 11 to 15 years old accounted for 19.2% and the group from 16 years old and above accounted for 16.7%.

In response to urgent requirements in epidemic control, the Ministry of Health issued Decision No. 1340/QD-BYT dated April 21, 2025 on the plan to implement the third phase of the measles vaccination campaign.

Today, April 22, the Ministry of Health received 500,000 doses of measles vaccine sponsored by FPT Corporation, through the FPT Long Chau pharmacy system and vaccination center.

It is expected that the first round of vaccine allocation will be completed before April 30, 2025 and the second round before May 15, 2025. Vaccines will be immediately distributed to localities to ensure implementation progress.

The ceremony to receive the above vaccines was held on April 22, 2025 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, with the participation of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Deputy Minister of Health, along with representatives of departments, bureaus, specialized institutes and media agencies.

Representing FPT Corporation were Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, General Director and Ms. Nguyen Bach Diep, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Retail, General Director of FPT Long Chau and representatives of related units.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong emphasized that the goal of the third phase is to ensure that at least 95% of children who have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses of measles vaccine will receive an additional dose.

Priority subjects include: Children from 6 months to under 9 months old who have not been vaccinated in the previous two rounds, especially in high-risk or epidemic areas; children from 11 to 15 years old in communes/wards at high or very high risk who have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses; and children with unknown vaccination history or history of measles.

On behalf of the Ministry of Health, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong expressed her deep gratitude to FPT Corporation and FPT Long Chau for their timely and practical support, demonstrating the spirit of companionship and corporate social responsibility in the field of public health care. She affirmed that the Ministry of Health will immediately allocate these vaccines to localities to accelerate vaccination and control the epidemic soon in accordance with the Government's direction.

On the sponsor side, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, General Director of FPT Corporation, said that as the leading technology pharmacy in Vietnam, FPT Long Chau represents the spirit of community health of FPT Corporation.

"The company is proud to join the Ministry of Health in the measles vaccination campaign. We expect this contribution will help raise the vaccination rate with two doses of measles vaccine to over 95%, moving towards achieving community immunity and preventing the risk of the epidemic spreading," said Mr. Khoa.

The third measles vaccination campaign is an important next step in the coordinated and drastic efforts of the Ministry of Health and localities to protect people's health, especially children - the most vulnerable to the epidemic.

The support of the business community, typically FPT Long Chau, is a valuable resource contributing to the realization of the goal of controlling measles, ensuring safety for the community during a time when the epidemic has many potential risks.
