Fostering revolutionary ideals for the young generation

All levels, sectors and localities have just carried out a high point of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). While the people of the whole country are proud of the glorious victory of the nation, there are still some young people who have made thoughtless statements and shown indifference to the sacred event of the Fatherland. Although only a small number, it shows that the work of educating historical traditions and revolutionary ideals for the younger generation plays a very important role and needs more attention. In Can Tho City, in recent times, the Youth Union at all levels has innovated traditional education activities, helping the younger generation have a correct understanding of history, love their homeland and country more, and have national pride.

Binh Thuy District Youth Union launched the "National Flag Road" route on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Thoi An Dong Ward.

In the context of globalization, in order for the younger generation to access and better understand the history of the struggle to build and defend the country of their ancestors, all levels and sectors, especially the Youth Union, pay special attention to the work of educating historical traditions, in order to form the thoughts and feelings of the youth. Thereby, continuing to promote the tradition of "repaying gratitude", the morality of "remembering the source when drinking water". On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, 100% of the Youth Union branches in the city launched a campaign for union members and young people to propagate the message "Peace is beautiful" (deployed by the Central Youth Union from April 20 to May 7). Accordingly, the Youth Union members participated in the campaign "Red covering social networks" by simultaneously changing their profile pictures, posting content, images, and videos related to the national flag and the atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (with the hashtag #hoabinhdeplam) on social networks.

Young people also posted the image of "Gratitude Candles" simultaneously on April 28, 2025 to express the gratitude and respect of the young generation for the sacrifices of heroes and martyrs in the resistance wars against foreign invaders of the nation. The Youth Union at all levels organized many activities to visit and give gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, policy families, people with meritorious services to the revolution; and former youth volunteers. At the same time, many cultural, artistic, physical education, sports activities, competitions, forums, and talks were organized with the content praising the homeland, the country, the Vietnamese people, the spirit of patriotism, and national pride.

In addition to strengthening traditional education activities on holidays and anniversaries, the Standing Committee of the City Youth Union directed 100% of affiliated units to establish at least 1 Young Theory Club. The club is responsible for propagating the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State; it is regularly renewed through propaganda on media and social networks. According to Mr. Truong Minh Duc, Secretary of the Binh Thuy District Youth Union, the Young Theory Club under the District Youth Union was established in October 2021, with 16 members; it meets once a quarter. During the meeting, the Club invites reporters to provide information on current events to young union members, trains grassroots Union officials in writing news and articles to protect the Party's ideological foundation, helping Union officials equip themselves with knowledge and skills to fight and refute the distorted arguments of hostile forces. The club also coordinates with other organizations to organize journeys to the source; journeys to the border, islands; exchanges with historical witnesses, to foster revolutionary ideals for young union members...

In order to improve the quality and effectiveness of political and ideological education for the younger generation, the City Youth Union signed a cooperation program with the City Veterans Association, the City Resistance Prisoners Association and the City Youth Volunteers Association. According to Mr. Tran Quoc Pham, Chairman of the Can Tho City Youth Volunteers Association, from 2024 to present, the Association has coordinated with Youth Union bases to organize 43 exchanges and traditional activities, attracting more than 8,200 young union members to participate. The forms and contents of the activities are diverse: talks, journeys to red addresses, telling stories about heroes and martyrs. Through real people, real events and "inspiring" stories, young people have a deep understanding of patriotism, awareness of their roles and responsibilities in studying, working, living, and making efforts to contribute to the development of the locality and the country.

From March 2025, Can Tho City Youth Union directed Youth Union chapters at all levels to establish young propaganda teams (each district and county Youth Union established at least 1 propaganda team). The teams carry out the tasks of propagating and educating historical traditions for young union members and students; carrying out youth projects to beautify historical and cultural relics; building digital maps of red addresses, digitizing documents and organizing many activities to preserve and promote traditional values of the nation. At the same time, implementing 50 "National Flag Roads" with 4,246 flagpoles, total value of more than 1.7 billion VND, contributing to spreading the spirit of shock and national pride of the youth. Thereby, fostering revolutionary ideals, qualities, ethics, and arousing the awareness and responsibility of the youth towards the country.
