'Flip Side 8', 'Detective Kien' reach 200 billion mark: A jubilant summer for Vietnamese movies

Flip Side 8: The Sun's Bracelet reached 202 billion on the night of May 11, while Detective Kien: The Headless Case reached 197 billion VND but has a fast revenue growth rate, and will soon reach 200 billion VND.

Thus, two rival films at the box office on April 30 reached the 200 billion mark almost at the same time. This development was beyond all predictions but overall is good news for the Vietnamese box office.

At the same time, Detective Kien also surpassed Blue Eyes to become director Victor Vu's most popular film.

Summer is almost as exciting as Tet

On May 11, after more than 2 weeks of showing both films, the screenings of Lat mat 8 and Detective Kien were both over 2,000 - 2,500 per day.

This number is not too high but stable, showing that the two films can still increase their revenue steadily in the coming days.

In recent days, Detective Kien 's occupancy rate has been better, so the film has risen to the top of the box office with daily revenue about one and a half times higher than that of Lat Mat 8. For example, on May 11, Detective Kien earned 12 billion VND while Lat Mat 8 earned more than 8 billion VND.

As for Lat Mat 8, the film had a very good start when it reached 100 billion VND after only 5 days of showing (2 days of early screening, 3 days of official screening), but in the later stages, the film somewhat lost steam due to criticism about the content. Therefore, the film's 200 billion VND milestone came later than expected.

However, Vietnamese cinema had a resounding success this year when it added two more films to the list of hundred-billion-dong films, both over 200 billion VND.

At the same time, the fact that both Vietnamese films dominated the box office makes the belief that "April 30 is the new Tet season for Vietnamese films" even stronger.

Detective Kien will have part 2, what about Flip side 9 ?

On May 10, at a meeting with Can Tho audiences, director Victor Vu confirmed that Detective Kien will have a part 2.

This information was also posted on the Victor Vu Films fanpage. Previously, the director and co-writer - creative producer of the film, Duc Nguyen, revealed that they had met to discuss the direction for part 2.

Through his personal page, screenwriter Duc Nguyen also shared information about his and director Victor Vu's desire to make a purely Vietnamese detective film. If they can create an "ancient detective universe", that would be great, but they are determined to "protect the tree that they eat from".

As for the audience, they are guessing about the details and plot of part 2. Many people "ship" the two detective characters Kien (Quoc Huy) and Hai Man (Dinh Ngoc Diep), hoping that they will officially become a couple in part 2.

As for Lat mat 8, in the press release announcing the revenue of 200 billion VND, the crew and director Ly Hai have not said anything about the sequel. Currently, the crew is still promoting the film in the Western provinces.
