BYD has officially launched the new version of the M9 large MPV line, also known as Xia, in the Chinese market. The car has a selling price from 206,800 - 269,800 Yuan (about 724 - 944 million VND). The car has been upgraded with a larger battery capacity, better fuel consumption and a more modern driving assistance system. The 2026 M9 continues to use BYD's 5th generation DM plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, the number of versions of the car in the Chinese market has been reduced from 5 to 4. Of which, two versions have a pure electric range of 100 km according to CLTC standards. The battery range of the extended version is increased from 180 km to 218 km.
The change is thanks to the larger capacity Blade battery pack. The fuel consumption in hybrid mode of the car is also reduced to 4.9-5 liters / 100 km, 0.4 liters lower than before. The total range when combining the electric motor and gasoline engine reaches a maximum of 1,163 km. The BYD M9 2026 plug-in hybrid powertrain in China includes a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 156 horsepower and a powerful electric motor of 272 horsepower. Thanks to that, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.1-8.5 seconds. In addition, the car is also equipped with BYD's DiSus-C smart suspension system, which can actively scan the road surface to reduce vibration and increase stability, along with an anti-motion sickness algorithm. All versions have a tire explosion control system and the ability to supply power to external devices. The dimensions of the BYD M9 2026 remain the same, including length x width x height of 5,145 x 1,970 x 1,805 mm and a wheelbase of 3,045 mm. This size provides a very spacious 7-seat interior space for the car. Inside the car, the BYD M9 2026 has two interior tones of brown-beige and gray.
The car's interior has a 2+2+3 seating configuration. The front seats are heated, ventilated, have memory and massage. In the middle row are two business class seats with calf rests, folding tables, ventilation and speakers integrated in the headrests. The third row can be folded electrically and adjusted to many reclining angles. The standard luggage compartment capacity is 470 liters, which can be expanded to 2,036 liters when the seats are folded flat. The car comes with 128-color interior ambient lighting, fragrance system and PM2.5 air filter (optional). The 15.6-inch central screen uses the DiLink 150 operating system, supports DeepSeek AI voice control, "alert mode", karaoke without microphone and multi-brand phone connection. The car also features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 26-inch W-HUD (premium version) and a 12.3-inch entertainment screen for the passenger seat (optional). Physical buttons are still placed below the touchscreen and 50W wireless charging is standard. Depending on the trim level, the car has a 12- or 24-speaker DiSound Dolby Atmos sound system, with an optional 28-speaker system and a portable outdoor speaker. Higher trim levels will add a climate-controlled refrigerator, a two-piece panoramic sunroof, a 15.6-inch rear-seat entertainment screen, and multi-zone climate control vents.
The top-end version will have God's Eye B driving assistance system with LiDAR sensor, supporting urban navigation and advanced automatic parking. The mid-range versions will use God's Eye C technology, supporting driving on the highway. In the plug-in hybrid MPV segment priced at 200,000-300,000 yuan (700 million to 1.05 billion dong), the BYD M9 competes with the Buick GL8 Land Business Edition PHEV (249,900-289,900 yuan) and the Maxus MIFA 9 PHEV (259,900-349,900 yuan). Compared to its competitors, the M9 has a longer pure electric range, lower fuel consumption and more advanced driving assistance technology. In September 2025, BYD sold 1,467 M9s, ranking 15th in the large MPV segment in China. The BYD M9 has also just been launched in the Vietnamese market but is an old version. The car has 2 versions priced at 1.999 billion and 2.388 billion VND.
