For the majority of audiences, singer Kieu Nga is a part of memory, the gentle voice of a regretful youth.
Kieu Nga, a persistent voice
Born in 1960 in Saigon, Kieu Nga entered the singing career from the school performances of Le Quy Don School, where she attended high school. As the younger sister of the famous singer Elvis Phuong - a powerful male singer of modern Vietnamese music - Kieu Nga chose a different path for herself: lighter, sadder, and deeper.
She is not noisy, does not create scandals, just quietly goes through the times with her own singing.
Singer Kieu Nga
From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, the name Kieu Nga was associated with New Wave music - a music trend with European and American influences that was trendy at that time - but she and her companions such as Ngoc Lan and Trung Hanh breathed into it a Vietnamese soul, making it closer and touching the hearts of audiences both domestically and overseas.
Audiences forever love Kieu Nga's singing
No one understood Kieu Nga's loss better than she did. After Ngoc Lan passed away in 2001 from multiple sclerosis, Kieu Nga fell into a deep mental crisis.
After many years of silence, Kieu Nga returned to Vietnam to perform in 2015 and 2017, to the excitement of her fans.
She no longer performs much and has no ambition to return to her old glory, but every time she appears, the audience gets to relive the glorious years of Vietnamese music in the 80s and 90s.
Fellow singers expressed their condolences when singer Kieu Nga passed away.
"The audience will always remember Kieu Nga. Every time she returned to her homeland, Kieu Nga performed and was welcomed by the domestic audience. Farewell to a heart that loved music intensely" - Meritorious Artist Hong Van said emotionally.
