Whales appear to hunt in Dak Lak waters

The image of a large whale surfacing to hunt at Mui Dien (Hoa Xuan commune, Dak Lak province) was recorded by local people and attracted the attention of many people.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Phung (born in 1993, Hoa Xuan commune, Dak Lak province), a fisherman, said that at 6:00 a.m. on July 1, while at sea, he accidentally saw a whale surfacing to hunt for prey.

"The whale appeared for about 5 minutes and dived into the water very quickly. This is the first time I have encountered this moment," said Mr. Phung.

After being shared on Facebook, the clip attracted the attention of many people.

In July 2025, predatory whales also appeared in this sea area. According to local people, the whale that appeared in Mui Dien sea area may be moving closer to the shore to find food.

"The appearance of whales in the scenic waters of Mui Dien shows that the marine environment here is very good, the resources of small fish near the shore are diverse, and the food for this fish species is extremely rich," said a fisherman.

In recent days, the image of a mother and baby whale hunting in the sea of Vung Boi, An Luong commune, Gia Lai province (My Thanh commune, Phu My district, former Binh Dinh province) has also attracted many people.
