Below are 5x5 exercises as suggested by fitness expert Aman Puri (India).
1. Dumbbell exercise
- Lie on your back on a horizontal or flat chair with your feet flat on the ground.
- Hold the dumbbells slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
- Inhale and lower the weights to your chest by keeping your elbows at a 90-degree angle.
- Exhale and push the weight back to the starting position.
2. Squat
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart
- Hold the dumbbell on your upper back with both hands.
- Lower your hips as if you were sitting in a chair. Keep your back straight and stand up.
3. Push the dumbbells over your head
- Stand up straight, feet shoulder-width apart and hold dumbbells at shoulder height.
- Push the weights over your head until you feel your arms can be fully extended.
- Keep your torso tight and lower the weights to shoulder level by maintaining balance.
4. Weight lifting exercises
- Stand with your feet hip-width apart and the dumbbells in the middle of your feet.
- Bend at the hips, keeping your back straight and chest up.
- Lift the weights, open your hips and push your knees back.
- Keep your spine neutral and slowly lower the weight back to the starting line.
