Providing highly qualified medical staff in traditional medicine

After 20 years of construction and development, 55 years of tradition, Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine has achieved many great achievements, is the leadinguniversity in training, scientific research, medical examination and treatment combining traditional medicine and modern medicine, contributing to serving the work of public health care, strongly integrating with the region and the world, contributing to bringing Vietnamese traditional medicine to the international arena.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Graduation Ceremony for new Masters, new Resident Doctors, new Specialists I, new Specialists II of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Quoc Huy, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of the Academy, said that over the years, the unit has trained more than ten thousand traditional medicine doctors, medical doctors and pharmacists; thousands of Masters, Resident Doctors, Specialists and PhDs. The training program is constantly expanding and diversifying. The quality of the teaching staff is increasingly improving.

In particular, scientific research, technology transfer and international cooperation have become a prominent strength, contributing to bringing traditional medicine closer to life, practically serving the work of community health care. The Academy has been granted a certificate of quality assessment of educational institutions for the second cycle and the assessment of all university-level training programs.

"The rate of students from the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine who graduate and find jobs every year is over 95%," Associate Professor Huy shared.

Promoting the implementation of research on national and ministerial-level scientific and technological tasks, and cooperation protocols with foreign organizations, up to now, a number of research topics of the Academy have been transferred to Tue Tinh Hospital and Tue Tinh Traditional Medicine Research Institute to produce a number of products such as: Tue Tinh Stomach, Bo Khi Thong Mach, Linh Phu Khang Tue Tinh, Moc Ty Vi, Tue Tinh Cot Thong Massage Spray, Tue Tinh GM Extract, Tue Tinh Tonic Wine.

With the orientation of developing the Academy into a scientific research and application-oriented university education institution, with an Academy management system following an advanced university management model, meeting educational quality standards and rankings in universities, the Academy continues to expand the training codes in the field of health sciences at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while providing continuous training courses in expertise and profession to provide a team of highly qualified medical human resources.

The Academy is also building the Tue Tinh Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy Research Institute to become one of the leading units in the country in scientific research, training, and services in traditional medicine and pharmacy. Develop strategies and organize the implementation of the development orientation of Tue Tinh Hospital into a specialized medical examination and treatment facility in traditional medicine, combining traditional medicine and modern medicine, and being the main practice facility for students and postgraduates of the Academy.

The Academy's practice facility is Tue Tinh Hospital, which has developed scientific research with many basic-level scientific research topics, members of state-level and ministerial-level topics. It has transferred many techniques under the 1816 program: Acupuncture, acupuncture, Qigong, massage and acupressure...

According to experts, to promote the development of traditional medicine, universities need to coordinate with hospitals in training human resources in traditional medicine according to each specialized field, aiming to build models and treatment regimens of traditional medicine combined with modern medicine in oncology in particular and other fields in general...

During the transition period, the health sector can adopt a model combining modern medicine doctors and traditional medicine doctors to treat patients, in which modern doctors use modern methods but combine them with traditional medicine/methods and have consultation with traditional medicine doctors.

This is one of the important contents to innovate and improve the quality of training of Vietnamese traditional medicine doctors, towards the examination to assess the professional capacity of traditional medicine doctors from 2027 according to the current Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.
