(Dan Tri) - While many people worry that their children will not be able to take extra classes with their regular teachers, Ms. Th. talks about the joy in her daughter's eyes when "her friends no longer go to extra classes with her."
Ms. L.Th., 43 years old, has two children (7th and 3rd grade) in Hanoi, said that in recent days, like many parents, she has been very interested in the information that schools and teachers have stopped teaching extra classes according to Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training .
With her own experience on the journey of accompanying her child to school, for Ms. Th., the Circular has gone to the core to limit the negative effects of extra teaching and learning that have caused pain for many years.

While many parents are anxious and worried that their children cannot take extra classes with regular teachers, Ms. Th. feels "healthy all over".
Ms. Th. shared that recently, her 7th grade daughter happily showed off that for the first time since the beginning of the school year, her teacher called her up to answer a difficult question that the other students could not answer.
And all this time, according to my nephew, no matter how much he raised his hand, he was ignored. The teacher only called on the students who were taking extra classes with her. The classmates also often whispered about this injustice.
The mother said that maybe her child's assessment was biased, but it showed that the negative atmosphere from extra classes with the teacher in class more or less affected the child's perception, thoughts, and emotions.
Ms. Th. has never encountered a case where her child was bullied or discriminated against because he did not attend extra classes, but many years ago, when her child was in elementary school, she had to "bite the bullet" and let her child attend extra classes with the homeroom teacher.
When I was in second grade, when I came home from school, I gave my parents a small piece of paper. On the paper, I wrote down a specific address, the time from 5:30 to 7:30 on Friday evenings and 8-10:00 on Sunday mornings.
At first, the couple did not understand the content of the note. The child did not know what it was either, just recounted it, the teacher wrote it on the board, asked all the students to copy it and give it to their parents.
They didn't care and forgot about the piece of paper. A few days later, the child gave his parents another piece of paper with the same content. He said, "I told you to give it to them in person."
She asked some parents in the class and learned that the paper had "clearly stated the time and location" of her home tutoring class. She introduced and announced it by writing it on the board, asking students to copy it and give it to their parents.

In the end, like many other parents in the class, she and her husband had to sign their child up for extra classes with the homeroom teacher even though they did not need them. In the evenings or on weekends, instead of the family gathering together and having meals together, the child had to go to extra classes, and the parents had to arrange a pick-up and drop-off schedule.
Ms. Th. added that her sister, who has two young children, also boasted that from now on she no longer needs to send her children to extra classes with their homeroom teacher. The children will have less time to study, they only need to take extra classes outside, study at a center, and study gifted subjects.
"There are students who want to take extra classes with teachers in class, but there are also many students who are "forced to take classes." For me, whoever wants to take extra classes should take them, whoever wants to teach extra classes should teach them, as long as the extra classes do not take place with regular students in class," said Ms. Th.
Although tutoring regular students is convenient for both teachers and students, it can obscure the four words "real need" that are mentioned over and over again in the issue of tutoring. It can leave invisible wounds that the people involved can get stuck in.
Remember not long ago, at an education seminar in Ho Chi Minh City, a father said that his child's teacher taught extra classes at home but his family did not let him go to school. They determined that the child should study culture at school, and outside of school hours, they should play, entertain or participate in the gifted subjects and sports that the child loves.
But to "buy" peace of mind, the family still registered and paid regularly every month, only... the child did not come to her house to study. At first, they made an excuse that the family was busy so they could not take the child to school. Gradually, the child did not come to class and the teacher did not ask anymore even though she still collected the monthly fee.
Many parents are under pressure with their children's extra classes (Illustration: Hoai Nam).
This parent also revealed that some of her friends also applied this method to avoid their children having to take extra classes with teachers in class. They registered and paid, but each month their children could only attend 1-2 classes at most because they really did not need to.
Teachers not tutoring regular students may leave many regrets and difficulties for both teachers and students, but it should be recognized that this is something that needs to be done for the sake of transparency and peace of mind.
According to Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, this is a regulation that is beneficial to students, contributing to ending the situation of forcing students to take extra classes. The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City is determined to strictly follow Circular 29, without leniency or sympathy for any case.
Circular 29 on extra teaching and learning of the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates cases where extra teaching and organization are not allowed, including:
- Do not organize extra classes for primary school students, except in the following cases: Arts training, physical education, and life skills training.
- Teachers who are teaching at schools are not allowed to teach extra classes outside of school for money from students that the teacher is assigned by the school to teach according to the school's educational plan.
- Teachers at public schools are not allowed to participate in the management and operation of extra-curricular teaching but can participate in extra-curricular teaching.
