Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet described the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport as "a fruit of peace and an achievement of friendship between Cambodia and China"
The airport complex, covering 700 hectares of land and construction, is partly financed with loans from China and costs $1.1 billion.
Mr Hun Manet said the airport is designed to serve as the main gateway to the Angkor temples, the ancient temples that were used as filming locations for parts of the popular film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
The airport will have an initial capacity of 7 million passengers per year, rising to 12 million by 2040.
