The construction site of the over 18km sea-crossing bridge project to Hon Khoai Island ( Ca Mau ) is under urgent construction. When completed, this will be a new strategic traffic route in the southernmost part of the country.
The sea-crossing bridge connecting mainland Ca Mau with Hon Khoai Island has been speeding up its progress since the first months of implementation. In the photo, the construction unit uses a specialized ship to pull the floating barge Zack-up to serve hydraulic drilling and offshore pile construction. Route of Hon Khoai sea-crossing bridge. Not far away, a team of engineers and workers are pouring concrete piles under complex weather conditions and constantly changing tides. The pile drilling area is nearly 6 km from the mainland, workers are constructing the steel structure of the bored pile item. Inland, near Khai Long tourist area, many barges have been gathered at the construction site waiting for tugboats to take them to the construction area.

After nearly 3 months of construction, many key equipment have been put into stable operation, ensuring technical parameters for implementing the next steps. At the connection point with the Ca Mau - Dat Mui highway, many construction machines and equipment have been gathered by the contractor. Specialized machinery is carrying out site leveling work for construction. Engineers and supervisory consultants are carrying out the work of erecting casing pipes in preparation for bored pile construction, one of the foundation items for building the bridge body.
This is the initial stage so most of the time is spent on preparation, testing and technical inspection. The construction unit is conducting a load test on a 1,500 mm diameter bored pile using the self-balancing method at pile position C5, column T00-01, with a test load of up to 754.29 tons. According to the investor, the bridge is built according to sea-crossing bridge standards with a total length of more than 18.22 km, including a 17.3 km long main bridge and a 0.87 km long branch bridge connecting to the island. The project has a cross-section of about 17.5 m wide, with 4 lanes and a design speed of 80 km/h. The starting point of the project connects to the Ca Mau - Dat Mui highway and the Ho Chi Minh road in Dat Mui commune (Ngoc Hien district), the end point stops at point K10, the eastern shore of Hon Khoai island. With a record sea-crossing length, this is considered the longest bridge in Vietnam and the third longest in Southeast Asia. The project has a total investment capital of about 100,000 billion VND, demonstrating great determination in opening up the socio-economic potential in the southernmost region.
Hon Khoai sea-crossing road and bridge, when completed, will not only shorten the distance to the island but also open a new door for international trade, develop logistics, and create a foundation for Ca Mau to make a breakthrough in the coming period. This is also considered a strategic step in the process of exploiting the potential of the sea and islands and strengthening the connectivity capacity of the southernmost region of the Fatherland.
