Accordingly, the floodwaters, combined with rain and high tides, broke the dike. According to Mr. Mai Hong Su, Head of Area 17, Binh Thuy Ward, the dike break occurred at 4 a.m. The broken dike section was 5m wide and 10m long, causing water to flow in at a very fast speed, leaving people unable to respond. Initial statistics show that 8 houses and 5 hectares of fruit and vegetable gardens were deeply flooded; damage to aquaculture ponds was very large.

The dike break is a section that is not part of the closed dike system invested by the city, but was built by the people themselves. Previously, the patrol force discovered the crack and mobilized the people to reinforce and cover it, but due to the high tide, the self-built dike was broken.

Immediately after the dike broke, the People's Committee of Binh Thuy Ward coordinated with the Irrigation Department and the police force to deploy solutions. Currently, the forces are surveying and temporarily reinforcing with Melaleuca stakes, and quickly assessing the damage to report to superiors for long-term treatment plans. The dike break has greatly affected the living conditions, travel and livelihoods of people on the islet, directly affecting houses and crops.
