The FCDO travel warning has been issued after large-scale protests broke out in Los Angeles.
The protests began on June 6 when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents made arrests in the city and at least 44 people were arrested on immigration charges. Thousands of protesters then took to the streets to protest immigration enforcement actions.
In response to these protests, the US government deployed security forces to Los Angeles, including thousands of National Guard troops and 700 Marines. The move was intended to support local law enforcement and ensure public safety, but it has also been controversial.

In its latest advice, the FCDO urges travellers to Los Angeles to closely monitor local media for updates and follow the guidance of local authorities.
“Travellers should avoid areas where crowds gather, as these could quickly escalate into conflict with law enforcement,” the FCDO warns. Travellers should plan their trips carefully to avoid areas of disruption.
The FCDO notes that protests against ICE operations have also been reported in other US cities, including Austin, Dallas and Texas. While these protests were smaller in scale than those in Los Angeles, they highlight the ongoing debate across the US about immigration policy and the methods used by the federal government to enforce it.

According to TTW , the FCDO travel advisory is a reminder for British citizens in particular and global citizens in general to always be vigilant when traveling to areas of social unrest.
The travel advisory also highlights the broader issue of immigration policy and its impact on people’s lives in the United States. As protests in Los Angeles continue, it is clear that this issue will be front and center for many Americans and international observers. “The situation in Los Angeles remains fluid, and it is essential that travelers stay informed and make informed decisions about their plans,” TTW wrote.
According to the executive order issued on June 4 by US President Donald Trump, visitors from 12 countries are banned from entering the US, including: Afghanistan, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
In addition, visitors from seven other countries are subject to strict entry restrictions, including: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
