Beware of tricks to distort the religious situation in the Central Highlands

Báo Công an Nhân dânBáo Công an Nhân dân02/02/2024

From the reality of social life, it can be seen that religious activities in Vietnam in general and the Central Highlands provinces in particular are respected and protected according to the law. Religion has been created the best conditions for its activities by our Party and State, but recently, exiled FULRO members have continued to distort the religious situation in the Central Highlands with extremely ridiculous arguments to slander, sabotage, and cause division in the great national unity bloc.

To carry out this plot, they seek to contact individuals and disaffected figures in religions to interview, record videos... then post them online with slanderous arguments: "The government still restricts religion", "The government imposes religion"... with the aim of accusing the Vietnamese government of not respecting freedom of belief and religion.

Ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands hold rituals to celebrate the New Year.

Typically, the page “Montagnards for Justice” posted many articles revolving around the content “The government attacks Montagnard Protestantism in the Central Highlands” during the terrorist attack in Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province on June 11 on Facebook with words distorting the policies and guidelines of the Party and the laws of the State.

Specifically, at the end of December 2023, this page continuously "advertised" with extremely ridiculous words such as: "The Vietnamese government has ended its policy of religious repression against the Montagnards. As of today, the government is detaining people without notice for teachers Y Cung Nie, Y Nuêr Buondap, Y Thinh Nie, Y Phuc Nie... Currently, the police are investigating the issue of requesting the government to guide on how to register for religious activities at home, the government invited them to work with the content of guidance on activities, but since yesterday there has been no information or notification to the family and they have arbitrarily detained people...".

Or as previously, on November 22, 2023, this page wrote: "Dak Lak authorities increase repression of the "Evangelical Church of Christ in the Central Highlands"". They claimed that the authorities of some localities in Dak Lak province increased harassment and repression of members of the "Evangelical Church of Christ in the Central Highlands", forcing them not to gather to pray and to leave this religious group. This page preached: "When dozens of believers were gathering at the house of Ms. H Ik Kbuôr, the wife of "preacher" Y Krec Byă in Ea Bar commune, Buon Don district on November 15, the police and local officials rushed in to request the group to disperse and make a record of the illegal religious gathering. On November 17, Buon Don district police summoned many people participating in the "religious meeting" at Ms. H Ik Kbuôr's house to "interrogate" and "force" them to sign a commitment not to repeat the offense...".

According to Dak Lak Provincial Police, these are the subjects who participated in illegal religious activities, gathered in large numbers, did not ask for permission or were not approved by the authorities, causing disorder and insecurity in the locality. Or as on the personal Facebook page of subject Y Quynh Buon Dap, the leader of the so-called "Montagnard Group for Justice" who is living in exile in Thailand and is being wanted by the Dak Lak Provincial Police Investigation Security Agency for the crime of "Terrorism" related to the incident on June 11 in Dak Lak.

On his personal page, Y Quynh Buon Dap stated: “My activities are in the field of religion and demanding human rights for the indigenous Montagnards in Vietnam. All activities of the “Montagnards for Justice Group” are aimed at fighting for justice and peaceful struggle. I know that the Vietnamese government has taken advantage of this case and slandered our “Montagnards for Justice Group”…”.

In fact, the so-called “Montagnard Group for Justice” led by Y Quynh Buon Dap, with subversive activities, such as: Directing ethnic minority groups in Dak Lak, Kon Tum, Phu Yen to take advantage of and hide behind religion to attract people, gather forces to sabotage the Party and State in the fields of “democracy”, “human rights”, “religious freedom”; contacting and mobilizing foreign diplomatic agencies in Vietnam to intervene and help so that the “Montagnard Group for Justice” can operate openly in the country.

In addition, Y Quynh Buon Dap has also continuously linked with a number of reactionary Vietnamese organizations abroad such as: "Committee for the Rescue of People Crossing the Sea - BPSOS", "Evangelical Church of Christ in the Central Highlands"... using cyberspace to organize training on human rights and religious freedom to train, coach, create "flags" in the country and collect information and situations in the country to distort, slander and sabotage.

Lieutenant Colonel Lu Thi Anh Dao, Deputy Head of the Domestic Security Department of Dak Lak Provincial Police, said that in the face of the above situation, the provincial police forces have fought fiercely to prevent subjects from disguising themselves as religious groups from violating national security. “Up to now, through the education and handling work of the provincial police forces, there have been many cases where people who were lured, enticed, and believed by reactionary subjects have realized their mistakes, abandoned them, and returned to pure and stable religious activities in legal Protestant organizations and groups,” Lieutenant Colonel Dao informed.
