Myanmar player's offensive actions receive storm of criticism from Indonesia

Indonesian fans have attacked the personal page of Myanmar defender Hein Phyo Win after the player intentionally kicked the ball into Marselino Ferdinan's head.

The incident happened in the 45+4 minute when Marselino Ferdinan had the ball on the left wing and was about to break through. After being tackled by an opposing player, Marselino Ferdinan fell down near the end line. Hein Phyo Win suddenly rushed in and kicked the ball into Marselino Ferdinan's head.

The Indonesian star appeared to be in pain, while his teammates angrily surrounded Hein Phyo Win. Other Myanmar players had to intervene. Referee Wong Wai Lun then showed Hein Phyo Win a yellow card.

Myanmar player deliberately kicks ball at Marselino’s head .” Meanwhile, Tribunnews published an article with the headline: “The moment Marselino was treated disrespectfully, Myanmar player Hein Phyo Win kicked the ball at Marselino’s head.”

Indonesian newspaper Bola wrote: “ The online community is paying attention to the match between Indonesia and Myanmar at the AFF Cup 2024: As tense as a village football tournament, Marselino was deliberately kicked in the head by his opponent.”

Hein Phyo Win was born in 1998 and plays as a right-back for the Myanmar national team and Shan United FC. Meanwhile, Marselino Ferdinan (20 years old) is a notable young star of the Indonesian national team. Marselino Ferdinan recently caused a stir when he scored a double to help the Indonesian national team beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
