In Tra Vinh , this year's sugarcane crop achieved both productivity and price. This is the third consecutive sugarcane crop that farmers have made a profit. Notably, the sugarcane was harvested right before Tet, so people are very excited.
Currently, sugarcane with 10 sugar content in the field is purchased at 1,300 VND/kg, this is the highest price of sugarcane ever.
In addition, when sugarcane farmers fulfill their contracts, the company also pays an additional 50 VND/kg of raw sugarcane. With a sugarcane yield of 130-150 tons/ha, sugarcane farmers in Tra Vinh earn a profit of 50-70 million VND/ha.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nguyen, in Luu Nghiep Anh commune (Tra Cu district, Tra Vinh province) has 15 hectares of sugarcane that are entering harvest season and happily said: "Currently, the factory's purchase price is 1,300 VND/kg for 10 sugar content.
In addition, the company also has a policy of insurance for sugar frames from 9 to 10 sugar canes at a price of 1,300 VND/kg. And the factory also has a policy of extending debt for 2 years for sugarcane with remaining roots, creating conditions for farmers to expand production.
This sugarcane crop, the local factory operates earlier than every year. Currently, on average, 2,300 to 2,500 tons of raw sugarcane are brought to the factory every day and more than 30% of the area has been harvested. It is expected that the sugarcane harvest will be completed this month so that people can prepare for Tet.
Sugarcane farmers in Tra Vinh are racing to harvest sugarcane to prepare for Tet amid rising raw sugarcane prices, reaching an unprecedented record.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Hien, Deputy General Director of Tra Vinh Sugarcane Company, said that for this year's sugarcane crop, the company has signed contracts with farmers for nearly 1,100 hectares, along with investment in seeds and input materials, to encourage farmers to expand their acreage.
Although the productivity is quite high, the total output of the region is only about 80,000 tons of sugarcane, lower than the current production needs of the factory.
To have enough raw materials for the factory to operate, the company will continue to import about 30,000 tons of raw sugarcane from Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces.
“Now the sugarcane material area of Tra Vinh is very small, therefore, we maintain support policies so that people can continue to maintain the old area and develop new areas.
On average, we need to have at least 2,200 tons of sugarcane per day to ensure the output for the machine's capacity. We try to stop around the 25th or 26th of Tet," said Mr. Tran Ngoc Hien.
Boats carrying raw sugarcane gather to wait for unloading in Tra Vinh.
It is known that this year's sugarcane crop, Tra Vinh Sugarcane Company has provided non-refundable support of 8 million VND/ha for newly planted sugarcane and invested 70% of the sugarcane production cost without interest, so that farmers can improve quality and expand the area to meet the factory's production needs.
