From a boy abandoned by his father and bullied by his friends to a talented legal advisor
That is the touching story of Dinh Trinh, 37 years old, who has suffered from cerebral palsy since birth. His mother - Mrs. Tau Hong Yen, 62 years old this year - has moved millions of people when she resolutely refused to give up on her son, despite all difficulties and prejudices.
Dinh Trinh suffered from cerebral palsy due to a medical error when he was born in 1988. At that time, doctors, even his biological father, advised Ms. Tau to give up the baby. But she bravely faced it and declared: “I am its mother. I have taken care of it every day since it was in my womb, how can I give it up? If anyone dares to remove its breathing tube, I will risk my life!”

Since childhood, Dinh Trinh had difficulty moving the left side of his body, but his intelligence was very sharp. Ms. Tau, a university lecturer, not only supported her son in his studies but also persistently trained him physically. For a whole year, she taught him to use chopsticks instead of spoons, so that he would not have to explain his health condition to anyone in the future. She said: “It is for your dignity.”
Shoulder all difficulties so that children have opportunities
Life was extremely difficult at that time. Ms. Tau only earned 100 yuan (about 361,000 VND) per month, while the cost of rehabilitation for her child cost nearly 5 yuan (about 18,000 VND) each time, every other day. To earn money to raise her child and for treatment, Ms. Tau did all kinds of jobs: from teaching soft skills classes to selling insurance. Later, in 1998, she was elected as a local National Assembly delegate, and the mother worked as a politician during the day and still sold insurance at night.

With her husband abandoning her son since birth, she divorced him when Dinh Trinh was 10 years old. After the divorce, her mother-in-law chose to live with her daughter-in-law and grandchild, taking care of the disabled boy together.
While growing up, Dinh Trinh often faced many challenges with his unhealthy body. He often said, “I can’t do it,” in the face of challenges. Every time, Mrs. Tau gently encouraged him, “Just try.”
The young man reached the peak of academic achievement after constant efforts
From elementary school to graduate school, Dinh Trinh always achieved outstanding results. In 2007, he was admitted to many top universities in China and chose to study at Peking University. He then continued his graduate studies at the University's International Law School.
With the encouragement of his teachers, Dinh Trinh boldly applied and was admitted to the Master of Law program at Harvard University (USA). He completed the course and passed the New York State Bar exam (USA) in just one year.
Currently, Dinh is working as a legal advisor for a company in his hometown in China.

In a recent interview, Ms. Tau was moved as she flipped through each page of her child’s birth certificate, report card, and travel diary: “When I saw my child succeed, I remembered the child who was almost taken off the ventilator, the child who was bullied by his friends. The long night was finally over.”
The story of a resilient single mother has moved millions of Chinese netizens.
“A great mother, who gave all her love and support to her child,” one person wrote. “The mother and grandmother stayed. The father left. Women are the pillars of the family!” another commented. “A mother not only teaches her child skills, but also teaches her child dignity and self-confidence,” one netizen shared.
