TPO - Mr. Nghiem Van Binh, Head of the Examination Management and Education Quality Assessment Department (Hanoi Department of Education and Training) noted a number of points in the organization of the 10th grade entrance exam, including the supervisor reminding candidates to check the status of the exam and report within 5 minutes to change it. After 5 minutes, candidates must take responsibility for the exam.

On June 3, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held a conference to provide guidance on exam supervision and the 10th grade high school entrance exam for nearly 700 test site heads and deputy test site heads of 201 test sites across the city.

Mr. Nghiem Van Binh reminded the heads of the examination sites about the new points in the organization of the exam such as, the heads of the examination sites will have to prepare 5 plans for numbering the candidates; instead of drawing lots to distribute the exam papers, the invigilators will distribute the papers from top to bottom, from right to left (counting from the teacher's desk) until the last candidate.

Exam sites with a large number of candidates must have a plan to concentrate candidates, draw lots to scientifically number candidates, and reasonably move teachers to avoid arriving late to the exam room.

Candidates are required to check the condition of the test and if they detect any signs of blurring, smudging, tearing... report immediately to the supervisor for resolution.

Candidates taking specialized subjects to enter specialized schools have a change: all subjects have a test time of 150 minutes. This is different from before, some subjects had a test time of 120 minutes.

Candidates taking the foreign language and natural science exams will take the test directly on the test paper. Candidates taking the general foreign language exam will still take the test on the multiple choice answer sheet.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires invigilators to follow the correct procedures in the exam, without cutting corners. For example, before opening the exam papers, candidates are allowed to witness the sealed exam papers. This is a mandatory regulation to ensure the rights of candidates.

Confiscate phones of staff and teachers

During the 10th grade entrance exam, all officers, staff, and teachers involved in organizing, supervising, and serving the exam had their phones confiscated during the entire exam period. The exam site was required to prepare an area to store phones and electronic devices of both officers and teachers at least 25 meters away from the exam room.

Mr. Binh also noted that when entering the examination room, the invigilator must absolutely not bring any related equipment, including pens. In the examination room, the invigilator is only allowed to use one type of pen issued according to regulations.

At the exam registration session on the morning of June 6, Mr. Binh asked the exam supervisors to emphasize the requirements and to grasp the exam regulations. In particular, he reminded candidates to check the condition of the exam papers for blurriness, smudging, difficulty in reading, and the number of pages.

"If you see anything unusual, you must immediately report it to the exam supervisor within 5 minutes of handing out the exam papers. After 5 minutes, the candidate must take full responsibility for the exam papers," said Mr. Binh.

In addition, candidates should also be informed that any act of leaking the exam will be dealt with. Both staff and candidates are responsible for protecting the exam. Candidates are responsible for protecting their exam, not allowing others to copy or affect the exam.

Candidates are only allowed to leave the examination room after 2/3 of the time for the written test has passed. If 2/3 of the time has passed, candidates who wish to leave will have to hand in all exam papers, test papers, and even scratch paper and will be instructed to go to the waiting room until the end of the exam time before being allowed to leave the examination area. For foreign languages, candidates must stay in the examination room until the end of the exam time.

The invigilators are also required to inform the candidates 5 minutes before collecting the papers to check all the information on the papers such as: registration number, exam code is correct or not. The collection of papers must follow the regulations, collecting in order from smallest to largest registration number.

Regarding the rights and responsibilities of candidates, according to Mr. Binh, this year's new point in the section on items allowed in the exam room is the addition of drawing tools for the Math subject.

Prohibited items, if candidates still intentionally bring them into the exam room, will be recorded and suspended from the exam.

Candidates who arrive 15 minutes late from the test start time will not be allowed to enter the exam area for that exam session. “If a candidate has entered the exam area but is more than 15 minutes late, he/she will not be allowed to enter the exam room,” Mr. Binh emphasized.

In fact, during the High School Graduation Exam, there was a controversial case when a candidate arrived at the exam site gate late but less than 15 minutes. However, the exam site security guard had to report to the head of the exam site, the time was over 15 minutes and the candidate was not allowed to take the exam as prescribed.

The Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam took place over two days, June 7-8, with nearly 104,000 candidates taking the exam. According to the exam schedule, on the morning of June 7, candidates will take the Literature exam, with a duration of 120 minutes; in the afternoon, candidates will take the Foreign Language exam; on the morning of June 8, candidates will take the Math exam, with a duration of 120 minutes. On June 9, candidates will take the specialized subjects exam to enroll in specialized schools.

Candidates are allowed to bring into the examination room the following: pens; rulers; pencils; erasers; set squares; graphing rulers; drawing tools; handheld calculators without word processing function, no memory card.
