Meeting female farmer Lieu Thi Kim Phuong (house number 63, street 18, Phuoc Binh ward, Thu Duc city), owner of an orchid production and hybridization facility, she excitedly introduced the orchid hybridization model. Her facility has an area of ^{​​1,500m2} , produces in the form of regional linkage, produces 1,000 bottles of tissue culture and more than 25,000 seedlings each month. Each year, orchid seed production brings in an income of over 200 million VND for the family; orchid business and service activities bring in about 400 million VND. Another happy thing is that the facility creates stable jobs for 24 workers, with an income of 6-8 million VND/person/month.

“Technology is the deciding factor,” said Kim Phuong. She said her orchid farm has “transformed” since applying biotechnology to crossbreed and produce Dendro orchid varieties by pollination and sowing seeds. Her greatest asset is her collection of seedlings, with more than 200 varieties.

The mushroom brand “Nâm Mười Sài Gòn” is not only chosen by consumers in Ho Chi Minh City but also supplied to many provinces and cities across the country.

Mr. Le Minh Hai (B6/147/3 Hamlet 2, Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District) is famous for his pasteurized fresh goat milk and goat milk yogurt products. Mr. Hai shared that thanks to investing in equipment and applying technology in production, processing, preservation and packaging, Da Phuoc pasteurized goat milk and goat milk yogurt products are recognized as ISO products, qualified for export to foreign markets. The product value increases by 50%-60% compared to selling raw milk to the factory.

Farmers who boldly apply technology to production are empowered by receiving active support from the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers' Association. The Association has coordinated to organize 1,046 training sessions and introduced and transferred 508 models of applying new science, technology and techniques to 5,026 officials and members. 7,132 farmer members have visited and studied agricultural production models and effective cooperative models...

Get rich together

Farmers in Ho Chi Minh City today are boldly applying technology to production and building many good models and good practices to get rich together. Many farmers in Cu Chi district said that billionaire Bui Van Muoi is not only famous for his varieties of gray oyster mushrooms, Hoang Kim mushrooms, pink oysters, white abalone, etc., but also encourages members of the Farmers' Club to produce and do business well and replicate the model for many farmers to get rich together. The model of "Saigon Mushroom Muoi" developed in Hoa Phu commune and has been replicated in many cooperatives, cooperative groups and enterprises in the High-tech Agricultural Zone.

“Sharing secrets, getting rich together from apricot blossoms” is the motto of the Head of the Binh Loi yellow apricot blossom growing association - farmer Nguyen Van Kiem (residing at C7/229/1, Hamlet 3, Binh Loi Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City). He regularly uses Facebook, Zalo, and the YouTube channel “Binh Loi Apricot Village” to advise, promote, and introduce new and effective products to members. For poor farmer members, he supports interest-free loans, gives away production tools, pots, fertilizers, and apricot seedlings, with a total value of 60 million VND.

So far, farmer Le Minh Hai has mobilized 5 garden houses and goat farms in the commune to establish the Da Phuoc Goat Cooperative. In addition to running the cooperative and creating jobs for 5 members, Mr. Le Minh Hai also bought 2 mini tillers to give to 2 poor households in the commune (total value of 30 million VND), gave 1 breeding cow to 1 poor member household (value of 25 million VND), supported ²⁵ m3 of clean land for 4 vegetable growing households in the commune...

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers' Association, the above-mentioned good models and good practices of farmers have been widely replicated, becoming a movement to compete in good production and business, and unite to help each other get rich. Specifically, the movement of farmers competing in good production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty has been widely developed, the model of "well-off farmers helping poor farmers" is increasingly developing according to the motto "using the people's strength to care for the people".

The movement has also promoted the internal strength of 90 Farmers' Clubs for good production and business, implemented 452 social security projects, helped nearly 12,240 poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households, and together with the association at all levels supported nearly 3,190 households to overcome poverty and strive to become rich.

It is expected that today (September 26), at the Ho Chi Minh City Hall, the 11th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers' Association, term 2023-2028, will take place, with the participation of 300 delegates and 20 guests, representing more than 57,000 farmers of the city. The Congress has the theme: "Solidarity - Innovation - Civilization - Development", expected to take place over two days, September 26 and 27.

During the past term, Ho Chi Minh City's agriculture continued to shift towards modern urban agriculture, high-tech agriculture, biotechnology; developing crops and livestock with high economic value. The focus is on typical agricultural products, OCOP products associated with key and potential agricultural product groups, better meeting domestic consumption and export needs. Farmers are the main force in developing the agricultural and rural economy with many good practices, good models and bringing positive results.

“In the past term, the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers' Association coordinated to promote vocational training, coaching, knowledge provision, transfer of scientific and technical advances, market information and international integration for farmer members.

The Association also supports preferential loans and guides farmer members in applying information technology to production to improve the quality of agricultural products, ensure food hygiene and safety, and move towards environmentally friendly production.

Farmers in the city have strongly promoted the spirit of self-reliance, self-improvement, will and aspiration to become rich legitimately and clearly demonstrated the spirit of solidarity, helping each other to become rich and sustainably reduce poverty according to the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh associated with implementing the criteria of "New farmers of Ho Chi Minh City".

As a result, more and more farmers have started businesses and actively participated in the process of restructuring the agricultural economy, creating jobs and increasing income for local farmers.
