On May 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival 2025 with the theme "Multi-colored Train" organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with other departments and branches at Tao Dan Park, District 1 opened and welcomed visitors.
In his opening speech, Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that the Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival 2025 will continue to spread and become an important practical activity in the series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025).
According to Mr. Vo Van Hoan, after three editions, the Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival continues to be an event to honor the orchid brand and ornamental flower products, which are key products of the agricultural sector of Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces and cities across the country.
The festival is organized to connect culture, tourism with urban agricultural development, creating an attractive tourist destination for Ho Chi Minh City; at the same time, affirming the role of Ho Chi Minh City as an effective bridge, an important trade promotion channel in the development of agricultural economy of regions across the country.
The event also creates a bridge between the state-farmers and consumers in the agricultural sector towards the goal of building "civilized farmers-ecological agriculture-modern countryside."
Mr. Pham Quang Hoi, Director of the Center for Consulting and Supporting Agricultural Economic Restructuring (Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City) said: The Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival 2025 is designed with the theme "Multi-colored Train", inspired by the two Thong Nhat trains, carrying the desire for peace, healing and reunion; connecting the past-present-future.
Where visitors can experience the unique features of each region and the beauty of orchids from all over the country.
The 3rd Orchid Festival attracted more than 200 units including cooperatives, gardeners, and artisans to participate; displaying and exhibiting in miniature landscapes and categories with a total of more than 39,000 orchid products of all kinds; an increase of 35% compared to the 2nd Orchid Festival.
At the event, the Organizing Committee also recreated the work "Vietnamese Soul" which won the Silver Prize at the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition - TIOS 2025; arranged spaces to promote city tourism; orchid and bonsai landscape spaces; exhibition and performance spaces for art works; spaces to introduce regional culinary culture and nightly cultural and artistic activities.
At the opening ceremony, the Organizing Committee announced the results and awarded the 2025 Orchid Contest.
This year's contest attracted nearly 600 orchid samples participating in seven main groups including Dendrobium lightning orchid, common Dendrobium orchid, mini Cattleya orchid, large Cattleya orchid, Slipper orchid, wild orchid (purebred wild orchid varieties of Vietnam), mixed orchid (other orchid genera not belonging to the above groups); with 100 gardeners from Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Dong Nai, Binh Duong...
The contest aims to introduce native orchid varieties and newly hybrid orchid varieties grown in the city and provinces with strengths in orchid production and trading.
The contest creates opportunities for gardeners, cooperatives, artisans, etc. to meet, exchange, discuss, and share experiences in growing and caring for orchids, especially orchids with high economic value, contributing to honoring the brand of orchids and ornamental flowers, which are the city's key agricultural products.
As a result, the Organizing Committee selected 70 unique and most typical orchid models to award prizes to the artisans.
Award-winning orchid samples will also be displayed at the Festival from May 16-20 to serve the sightseeing and enjoyment needs of city residents as well as domestic and foreign tourists./.
