Chile has a new president after the second round of elections.

(CLO) On December 14, right-wing candidate Jose Antonio Kast became the new President of Chile after winning with 58% of the vote in the second round of the election.

The foundation of Kast's victory was his unwavering commitment to addressing voters' deep-seated concerns about rising crime and migration.

Left-wing opponent Jeannette Jara, who received 42% of the vote, quickly conceded defeat.

Jose Antonio Kast's campaign platform, with its tough proposals such as building a border wall, deploying troops to crime hotspots, and deporting illegal immigrants, struck a chord with voters over top concerns.

The road ahead for President-elect Kast is not easy. He will face a deeply divided Congress , where the Senate is balanced between the left and the right, and the House of Representatives holds the decisive vote for a populist party.
