Kien Giang Flocks of swallows flock to Nguyen Trung Truc Park, Rach Gia City, perching on trees and electric wires, creating a strange scene, but causing trouble for people.
At around 5pm every day, flocks of swallows begin to roost around the park, perching and sleeping on tree branches, electric wires, and stone benches, and flying away to find food the next morning. According to locals, the flock of birds appeared when the park was renovated and more trees were planted, three years ago, and there were especially many after Tet 2024.
Many people find it strange to see flocks of birds chirping every night, and when there is a noise, they fly out and cover the sky. Besides the excitement, some people find the birds annoying.

Mr. Phung Van Dong, who sells soft drinks near the park, said that birds defecate everywhere, from the streets, parks, signs, and houses. His family's glass doors have to be sprayed with water and cleaned every day because of the white bird droppings. The stench from bird droppings also affects business, especially food and beverage stalls.
"We know that good land attracts birds, but the current number is very annoying. Some households have tried to chase away and trap the birds, but it has not been effective," said Mr. Dong, adding that people have rarely visited the park since the birds returned. In addition to environmental issues, many people are worried about the diseases the birds carry.

Mr. Bui Trung Thuc, Vice Chairman of Rach Gia City People's Committee, said that the flock of birds has been in Rach Gia for many years, but has increased rapidly recently, estimated to be double that of last year.
"They reproduce well and many people release birds, so the flock increases very quickly," Mr. Thuc stated the reason.
Rach Gia City People's Committee once proposed to capture birds to reduce the flock, but the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development did not agree. In the short term, the locality will arrange for people to clean the park every day to limit the odor, and in the long term, find a way to drive away the birds. This needs to be done soon because the number of birds is too large, affecting the environment, and posing a risk of disease.

This unit believes that trying to destroy swallows will upset the ecological balance, so it proposes a number of solutions to repel them such as making scarecrows, using reflective materials, spraying water...
