Anti-smuggling and counterfeiting must be done regularly.

On June 6, Working Group 1531 of the National Steering Committee 389, headed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam, had a working session with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province on the prevention and combat of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and infringement of intellectual property rights in the province.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said that in recent times, the province has directed strongly, mobilizing the participation of sectors, localities and functional forces. Key areas that have been strengthened in inspection and control are cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, agricultural materials, etc. Violations are strictly handled, with no prohibited areas.

Specifically, in the first 5 months of 2025, Kien Giang province's authorities detected 184 violations (down 45% compared to the same period last year), including 67 cases of trading and transporting prohibited goods; 114 cases of commercial fraud and 3 cases of counterfeit goods. The total amount of money collected for the budget was more than 22.8 billion VND. Authorities have prosecuted 7 cases and 8 related subjects.

However, anti-smuggling work still faces many difficulties: sophisticated and organized activities; subjects are often absent or hire transporters; taking advantage of e-commerce and fast delivery; large border areas with many trails and openings; while specialized forces are still small, lacking means and equipment.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam acknowledged and highly appreciated Kien Giang's efforts in preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods. He requested the province to continue to strictly implement the directions of the Government, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee 389; strengthen coordination between forces, build a rapid response mechanism, and promptly handle violations.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized that anti-smuggling should be considered an important political task, implemented resolutely and continuously, not only during peak times. At the same time, the province needs to focus on patrolling and controlling land and sea borders, reviewing policies and proposing appropriate mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of the fight, protect consumer rights and stabilize the market.
